And while airline security's always

(END SOT) Airline delays are getting longer.. the
skies are getting more congested.. and
President Bush has had enough.
With less than 24 hours to go before
the start of the holiday travel
crunch..
the White House about to announce
steps to try to reduce air traffic
congestion.
At the top of his list.. a call for new
F-A-A air traffic control measures..
with some extraordinary steps during
the Thanksgiving rush next week.
To create more room in the skies..
military air space is expected to be
opened around New York City.. and
Kennedy airport will likely allow
simultaneous departures on its runways
as well as open an additional runway
for departures.
BRIDGE: Many of the problems that clog
the entire system start here in the
northeast.. up to a third of the nation
s air traffic flies through the New
York City region.. the idea is a quick
fix here could help everyone.
About 27 million passengers will fly
during the busy 12 day period beginning
tomorrow.. and relief can't come soon
enough.
MOS
MOS
Some of the administration s long term
solutions include fining the airlines
for flights that are chronically
delayed .. and compelling airlines to
triple
the compensation to passengers who are
bumped from their flights.
With the airline industry delivering
its worst on-time performance since
recording keeping began.. there is no
silver bullet solution.. but these
small changes bring need relief to
travelers this holiday season.
