Last night, Scott Abell's
unbeaten and seemingly unbeatable team
played host to the Blue Streaks of
Harrisonburg in the Region Three,
division four semi-final.

fever pitch for the playoff to start
last night and could have cared less
about the cold weather.
In the first quarter, Peter Rose
will find his favorite target Derrik
McCoy in the endzone. It's a 22 yard
strike and the two Tech bound seniors
get the Lancers on the board making it
7-to-nothing.
More Amherst. This time Rose
keeps the ball, rolls up the middle and
he will drag a few defenders for a
first down with nothing but effort a a
lot of God given skills.
Rose will later find McCoy on
another pitch and catch and this time
it will move the ball inside the Blue
Streaks 10 yard line in the second.
Rose would finish that drive with
a keeper - scoring from the 7.

Heritage vs. William Byrd This one took place at Bob
:00 Patterson Stadium in Vinton - the first
time ever that Byrd has played host to
a football playoff game.
But Sean Sutton and Heritage were
the ones providing the fireworks to
start this game. He fields the opening
kick from his own 17 yard line, tears
through the sea of orange and no one is
going to catch him. The 83 yard kick
return for a score, but the Pioneers on
top 7-to-nothing before the Hot
Chocolate had cooled enough to drink.
The Terriers didn't panic and
stuck to their game plan - of running
the football. Former player of the
week Landon Johnson rips off a 22 yard
chunk carrying the mail all the way to
the Heritage 28 yard line.
A couple of plays later, Brent
Hubbard takes it to the paint from 17
yards out as Byrd goes 65 yards in two
minutes to knot the score at 7-all.
And as you know, Jeff Highfill
knows how to keep a defense honest with
a pass or two. And this time it worked
just like he drew up as Johnson and
Mike Gemaelish hook up on the 53 yard
TD strike as the Terriers get their
first lead of the night at 14 to 7.
But Heritage would fight right
back as A.J. Payne throws a beautiful
pass to Mike Petty in the end zone.The
17 yard TD pass tied the game at
14-all.

teams will run into some of their old
district mates who are now in region
Four.
Two of those Division Four
schools played in Salem for the second
straight Friday night as the unbeaten
Spartans hosted Pulaski County.

Pulaski Co. vs. Salem Football in November is a
:00 mainstay for Steve Magenbauer and his
Spartans and he had his team p laying
well up 10-to-nothing at the half.
And in the third Jonathan Clemo
will make this catch out of the
backfield, turn and race 27 yards deep
into Pulaski Territory before he's
pushed out at the Cougars' 10 yard line
on the play.
Two plays later, Clemo powers his
way into the endzone and the Spartans
are looking good on top 17-to-nothing
in the third.
Pulaski had trouble getting
anything going offensively, but did
establish a little rhythm late as
Nubian Peake picks up first down
yardage inside the Spartans' five yard
line..
Peake would get the four yard TD
shortly after as the Salem lead is cut
to 17-to-7 in the fourth.
The Cougars would try to get
fancy with an onsides pick, but Brett
Demole would have none of that -
recovering it for Salem as the Spartans
would then start to kill the clock.

Salem on this one. The Spartans beat Pulaski

even the ball were getting a little
heat thrown to them.
Bassett was down 3-to-nothing in
the first when Martin Scales went right
up the middle, bounces off the back of
his blockers and rolled into the
endzone to put the Bengals in front for
good. It's 7-to-3 Bengals.
Blacksburg would come right back
as quarterback Trey Gresh splits three
defenders with the pass and finds
Trenton Woodell over the middle for a
first down.
But the Bruins missed out the
scoring chance as the 28 field goal
sails to the right and it's still
7-to-3.
Blacksburg would get it right
back before the half as Eric Houff
steps up and picks off the Boo Woods
pass and he'll return it 15 yards with
a nice interception.

In the regular season back on
October 12th the Bees crushed Liberty -

and duplicate that feat tonight.

Logan Thomas will pass to Chad

Liberty would try to regain some
type of composure and sure enough
Derrick Comer will fire one deep
downfield to Ryan Webb. He will haul
in the bomb abd then run it in for the
score. The Minutemen cut the lead to

- Comer will handoff to LaVarta Tanner,
who goes in from the three and it's now
a 35-to-12 game in the third.

On the Indians' first play of the
game, David Harrison goes right up the
middle for nice yardage and a first

ground.
But a funny thing happened on the
way to the endzone, as Bland County
recovers the fumble and snuffs out the
Rural Retreat drive.
But Bland couldn't do any better
at holding on to the ball as the Bears
cough it up moments later.
The Indians would take advantage
of that turnover as Harrison scores
from in tight although it takes awhile
for the ref to signal TD.

of weeks ago with the Spartans posting
a realatively easy win over the Buffs.

Floyd Co. vs. Giles Tonight, the two Three Rivers
:00 rivals had to square-off again in the
Region C, division two semi-finals.
Floyd had plenty of chances to
shine, but instead shot itself in the
foot of several occasions. Brett
Holman has trouble with punt return and
the Spartans will smother the ball and
take over.
The Floyd "D" would get it back
and to see the "O" cough it up. Luke
Harris gets stripped and Sheldon
Douthat is quick to the spot to get the
recovery for the home team.
But Giles was in the giving
spirit as well tonight. Senior Tyler
Beckner makes a great play on the ball
and picks off this pass and does an
even better job on the return.
But Giles would hold and Cody
Journell would take over. First he
scores from in tight to make it a 6 to
nothing lead in favor of the Spartans.

Larry McCoy, who will weave his way
throught the Grayson defenders before
heading to the sideline. He will make
it out to midfield.
On the very next play, Seth White

North Carolina area. His transition
nearly coincided with the coaching
change at Radford in which Matthew
Saunders replaced the legendary Norm
Lineburg.
Saunders quickly learned how
valuable Claytor would be to his team's
success.
MATTHEW SAUNDERS/RADFORD HEAD COACH:
Claytor had the ball plenty
against Floyd County in a contest the
Bobcats deemed their playoff game.
Charvis carried 15 times for 111 yards
and a TD, to go with 123 return yards,
not to mention 7 tackles on defense and
an 80 yard interception return for a
touchdown in a 27-25 win over the
playoff bound Buffaloes.
CHARVIS CLAYTOR/FFE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Claytor certainly went out with a bang,
leading Radford to a four game winning
streak to end the season, following a 1
and 5 start.

rushing yards, accounting for 18 total
