Barry Bonds could be headed for prison
instead of the hall of a fame.

The home run king was indicted
yesterday for perjury and obstruction
of

justice for telling a grand jury he
never KNOWINGLY used
performance-enhancing

drugs. He COULD face as much as 30
years in prison.

SOT JON WERTHEIM/SENIOR WRITER, SPORTS

ILLUSTRATED 215250): "BARRY BONDS IS

NOT THE FAIR-HAIRED BOY - BUT AT THE
SAME TIME, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE

INDICATION THERE WOULD BE THIS
BOMBSHELL."

Bonds has ALWAYS denied an illegal
advantage - but according to the
indictment

- he tested positive for steroids.

His attorney called the indictment a
persecution.

(SOT MIKE RAINS/BONDS' ATTORNEY): "NOW

THE PUBLIC IS GOING TO GET THE WHOLE

TRUTH....NOT JUST SELECTIVELY LEAKED
FABRICATIONS FROM ANONYMOUS SOURCES."

(nats of home run record - NO
EXCERPTING OR LIBRARY USE, PROVIDED BY
MAJOR

LEAGUE BASEBALL)

As Bonds bashed his way into the record
books, a grand jury worked for years,

looking for evidence the slugger
artificially inflated himself and his

numbers. He credited an intense,
natural workout regimen with a personal

trainer.

That trainer - Greg Anderson - REFUSED
to testify against his client and was

imprisoned for over a year....But after
the indictment came out, he walked out

of jail.

In San Francisco, fans were quick to
defend the hometown hero.

(SOT MOS): "YOU GOTTA ADMIT THE MAN CAN

HIT A BASEBALL."

(SOT MOS halfway over Bonds pix): "IT'S

SAD THAT WE'RE WASTING ALL THIS TIME

CHASING BARRY AND THE STEROIDS WHEN I'M
SURE THERE'S LOTS OF OTHER THINGS WE

COULD BE SPENDING THE MONEY ON."

(oncam)

Before the indictment, Bonds was
looking for a new team. But now many
wonder

if the free agent can remain a free
man.

Last Thursday The Humane Society says there is
a hundred dog discrepancy.

Commonwealth's Attorney Gregory
Goad said it's more like 89 dogs, and
it's now part of the investigation into
the alleged puppy mill.

Last week, hundreds of dogs and
puppies were given up by breeder Junior
Horton.

He kept 200 of them.

Goad said a miscalculation could
be the explanation - because puppies
were being born everyday at Horton's
and he continued to sell dogs.

Horton has NOT been charged with
anything.

Last Thursday Commonwealth's Attorney Gregory :00 Goad said it's more like 89 dogs, and
it's now part of the investigation into

Last week, breeder Junior Horton

but he kept 200.

Goad said a miscalculation may be
the answer.

Puppies were being born everyday
at Horton's, and he continued to sell
dogs.

Barry Bonds could be headed for prison
instead of the hall of a fame.

The home run king was indicted
yesterday for perjury and obstruction

of

justice for telling a grand jury he
never KNOWINGLY used
performance-enhancing

drugs. He COULD face as much as 30
years in prison.

SOT JON WERTHEIM/SENIOR WRITER, SPORTS

ILLUSTRATED 215250): "BARRY BONDS IS

NOT THE FAIR-HAIRED BOY - BUT AT THE
SAME TIME, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE

INDICATION THERE WOULD BE THIS
BOMBSHELL."

Bonds has ALWAYS denied an illegal
advantage - but according to the
indictment

- he tested positive for steroids.

His attorney called the indictment a
persecution.

(SOT MIKE RAINS/BONDS' ATTORNEY): "NOW

THE PUBLIC IS GOING TO GET THE WHOLE

TRUTH....NOT JUST SELECTIVELY LEAKED
FABRICATIONS FROM ANONYMOUS SOURCES."

(nats of home run record - NO
EXCERPTING OR LIBRARY USE, PROVIDED BY

MAJOR

LEAGUE BASEBALL)

As Bonds bashed his way into the record
books, a grand jury worked for years,

looking for evidence the slugger
artificially inflated himself and his

numbers. He credited an intense,
natural workout regimen with a personal

trainer.

That trainer - Greg Anderson - REFUSED
to testify against his client and was

imprisoned for over a year....But after
the indictment came out, he walked out

of jail.

In San Francisco, fans were quick to
defend the hometown hero.

(SOT MOS): "YOU GOTTA ADMIT THE MAN CAN

HIT A BASEBALL."

(SOT MOS halfway over Bonds pix): "IT'S

SAD THAT WE'RE WASTING ALL THIS TIME

CHASING BARRY AND THE STEROIDS WHEN I'M
SURE THERE'S LOTS OF OTHER THINGS WE

COULD BE SPENDING THE MONEY ON."

(oncam)

Before the indictment, Bonds was
looking for a new team. But now many
wonder

if the free agent can remain a free
man.

approach, many people will reach into
their wallet or pocketbook to give to

But as it turns out, that support
is actually needed year-round at food

The situation at Saint Francis
House in Roanoke is not unique. In
fact it's common among food pantries in
our region.

As the cost of food has gone up,
so to has the number of clients being
served.

So essentially, they're trying to
feed more people with less food.

That means stretching every
dollar as far as it will go, to keep
the shelves stocked for those in need.

That's where the Southwestern
Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank comes
in.

The food bank provides its 350
member agencies with low cost food...
directly or indirectly feeding over
100-thousand people a month.

But the Food Bank's shelves are
not as full as they once were.

Executive director Pamela Irvine
says food banks across the country are
reporting the same findings... the
amount of food being donated is
actually higher than years before,
however the demand for that food has
grown two-fold.

And when the food bank doesn't
have enough to supply its agencies...

HAD TO DO TO STRETCH THAT." 10.45.27
