stabbing early this morning in
Botetourt County.

Authorities have arrested and

charged 35-year-old Dion Algernon Payne
of Cloverdale for the stabbing of
20-year-old Steven Edwards Carter.

Payne has been charged with first
degree murder.

Birchwood Lane in Cloverdale.

The investigation indicates the
incident happened following an
altercation over damage to Payne's
bicycle.

area student athletes were injured,
after a single engine plane crash in
New York.

Sean Sutherland of Alexandria,
and Jason Early of Radnor, Pennsylvania
were seriously injured in the crash.
Early and Sutherland both play
basketball for Lynchburg college.

The FAA says the plane lost contact

three men for a SECOND time in the
case.

Joran Van der Sloot, who's 20, was
taken into custody yesterday in the
Netherlands, where he attends a
university.

At the same time, police in Aruba
brought in his old friends and fellow
suspects, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe.

Aruban prosecutors issued a rare
public statement saying they've found
"new incriminating evidence" that Van
der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers
caused "serious bodily harm that
resulted in the death" of Natalee
Holloway.

It's been two and a half years since

The Tech Corps of Cadets band made
its way down Broadway today in New
York's Macy's Day Parade.

And the Highty Tighties had a
message to go with their march.

They were honoring the victims of
last April's campus shootings.

One of those victims was freshman Matt
Laporte, a member of the band.

Family members were guests of honor
at the parade, and as they have all

year, the Highty-Tighties left an empty
spot for Matt in their formation

The band members will gobble down a
turkey dinner this afternoon then head
straight back to Blacksburg.
