member of Nancy Copin, the Franklin
County minister murdered last May.

guilty to the crime.
By making a deal with prosecutors,
he'll spend the rest of his life behind
bars rather than get the death penalty.
In court, Cobler apologized to the
victim's family.

the afternoon battling a tough forest
fire near Monroe.

The smoke on Tobacco Row Mountain
was first spotted around one o'clock.
The fire is located in the woods
behind Morris Orchards off High Peak
Road.
The rough terrain has made it
difficult for crews to reach it.
They've been using A-T-Vs and
bulldozers to get up the mountain and
cut a line around the fire.
Brisk wind has also been a
problem.
Authorities estimate the fire has
burned about ten acres of forest.
There aren't any buildings in danger.

Ridge Mall the entire day, some to shop
and some just wanting to share the
experience of taking part in one of the
busiest days of the year for retailers.
The 80-plus stores in the mall were
packed with those looking for a good
bargain or that special gift.
Even smaller retailers were busy

could hardly keep up with the demand at
his booth, selling personalized
Christmas ornaments.
By noon, Akdhar says he had sold
close to 700 dollars worth of
merchandise.
Mall officials say, despite the
crowds, everything has gone smoothly.

Early were in fair condition this
afternoon at Westchester Medical Center
in New York.
Both were seriously injured in
the crash early Wednesday morning.
Jason Early's father was
piloting the plane and was killed.

Maybrook, New York. That's about 50
miles north of New York City.

first hunting death of the season --
and if history is any indication, it
probably won't be the last. Five
hunters were accidentally killed last
year.
Since the Department of Game and
Inland Fisheries began keeping track in
1993, the state has had only one year
without a hunting death.
This year's first fatality
happened on November 10th, when
Radcliffe Vernon of Hot Springs was
accidentally shot by another hunter on
the first day of muzzleloader season
near Lake Moomaw.

Virginia students painted the
Beta Bridge in Charlottesville in

for a vigil on Tech's Drillfield.
Plus, thousands of UVA students
also joined a FaceBook group to show
their support for the Hokies.

the Marching VIrginians played a joint
concert with the UVA Marching Band
inside the John Paul Jones arena.
The finale of the show featured
both bands creating a 550-piece

are being donated to the Ryan Clark
Memorial Fund and the Cavalier Marching
Band Fund.
