historical building had to be torn down
and that angered preservationists.

Both Lessard and his son were
at home near Charlottesville when they

Investigators say the fire
probably started outside-- and it does
not appear suspicious.
The nearly one million dollar

again..

night while riding his bike home.
He received superficial wounds to
his face, arms, back, and torso.
King lives in Rialto, California
...about 50 miles east of Los Angeles.
The 42 year old gained national
attention when his 19-91 beating by Los
Angeles police was caught on tape.
Riots broke out in the city
following the acquittal of four white
police officers accused of assaulting
King.
Police are investigating this
shooting.

poeple banned from buying guns has
doubled since April 16th....that's
because not as many are falling the
cracks when it comes to federal gun
background check laws.
After the shootings at
Virginia Tech many states changed how
they reported people with mental
illnesses.
In June, there were about
175-thousand names in the federal
database. Today, the number has jumped
to 400-thousand.

marathon.

Students at Preston Park
Elementary are walking more than 26
miles.
It's called the Achilles Kids
Race Around Roanoke.
The students take laps around the
school.....convert them into miles and
chart them on a map.
While students are getting some
exercise....they're also getting a
geography lesson.

American Football Coaches Association
first team All Americansquad today.
Adibi is part of a senior class at Tech
that has a chance to win its 42nd game
in the last four years, by taking out

have reached a deal that will end the
nearly three week walkout.
Theatergoers have been lining up
and Broadway has been tuning up.
Details of the five-year contract
deal -- reached late lastnight -- have
not been disclosed. It must still be
approved by union members.
Tickets that normally sell for
more than 1-hundred dollars are going
for less than 30 today.
New York lost an estimated 2
million dollars a day during the
walkout.

The Salem High School band was
one of nearly 90 entries who took part
in the annual Christmas parade.
Thousands lined the streets to
hear the bands and watch the floats
make their way through the streets of
downtown.
Prizes were given away for
various categories, including best
float and theme.
The festivities also included the
lighting of the tree in front of the
Municipal building and an open house at
the newly renovated War Memorial.
