plan to develop Mill Mountain -- plans
that include a restaurant.

Any development near the star is
subject to approval of the Fishburn
family, because J-B Fishburn donated
the land to the city.

The Mill Mountain Advisory
Committee is supposed to have some say
in it, too.

That committee met yesterday.

Federal reserve chair Ben Bernanke
fueled worries when he blamed financial

strains for a murky prediction.

(SOT BEN BERNANKE/FEDERAL RESERVE

CHAIRMAN 212013): "ECONOMIC FORECASTING
IS

ALWAYS DIFFICULT, BUT THE CURRENT
STRESSES IN FINANCIAL MARKETS MAKE THE

UNCERTAINTY SURROUNDING THE OUTLOOK
GREATER THAN USUAL."

The Fed was caught off guard by how
poorly markets have fared since the

central bank last met in October.

During that meeting, they signaled
further cuts may NOT be needed, but
there's

been MORE turmoil ever since....The
housing slump has deepened, the credit

crunch has tightened and consumer
confidence has plummeted.

(nats closing bell)

The Fed's banking on spending to
bolster the economy, but if consumers -

already hurting from rising gas and
home heating costs - get skittish, a
sharp

cutback in spending COULD send the
economy into a tailspin.

(SOT BERNANKE 212020): "WE AT THE

FEDERAL RESERVE WILL HAVE TO REMAIN

EXCEPTIONALLY ALERT AND FLEXIBLE."

Bernanke spoke hours after the White
House (gfx-in) raised its prediction
for

economic growth this year from 2.3
percent to 2.7 percent. It expects the

same growth next year but that's down
from an earlier prediction of 3.1

percent.

The slow-down is blamed in part on
continuing housing woes, and a new
report

on that shows foreclosures nearly
doubled in October over the same month
last

year.(gfx-out)

(SOT font early STEVE MASSOCCHA/PACIFIC

GROWTH EQUITIES): "THIS REAL ESTATE

DEBACLE CLEARLY IS GOING TO HARM THE
ECONOMY. THE ONLY QUESTION IS WILL IT

HARM THE ECONOMY TO THE POINT WHERE IT
TIPS IT INTO RECESSION? OR WILL IT

MERELY SLOW GROWTH?"

(oncam)

The Fed's next move will probably be
clinched by next week's employment

report....Most analysts expect job
numbers to stay about the same.

Federal reserve chair Ben Bernanke
fueled worries when he blamed financial

strains for a murky prediction.

(SOT BEN BERNANKE/FEDERAL RESERVE

CHAIRMAN 212013): "ECONOMIC FORECASTING
IS

ALWAYS DIFFICULT, BUT THE CURRENT
STRESSES IN FINANCIAL MARKETS MAKE THE

UNCERTAINTY SURROUNDING THE OUTLOOK
GREATER THAN USUAL."

The Fed was caught off guard by how
poorly markets have fared since the

central bank last met in October.

During that meeting, they signaled
further cuts may NOT be needed, but
there's

been MORE turmoil ever since....The
housing slump has deepened, the credit

crunch has tightened and consumer
confidence has plummeted.

(nats closing bell)

The Fed's banking on spending to
bolster the economy, but if consumers -

already hurting from rising gas and
home heating costs - get skittish, a
sharp

cutback in spending COULD send the
economy into a tailspin.

(SOT BERNANKE 212020): "WE AT THE

FEDERAL RESERVE WILL HAVE TO REMAIN

EXCEPTIONALLY ALERT AND FLEXIBLE."

Bernanke spoke hours after the White
House (gfx-in) raised its prediction
for

economic growth this year from 2.3
percent to 2.7 percent. It expects the

same growth next year but that's down
from an earlier prediction of 3.1

percent.

The slow-down is blamed in part on
continuing housing woes, and a new
report

on that shows foreclosures nearly
doubled in October over the same month
last

year.(gfx-out)

(SOT font early STEVE MASSOCCHA/PACIFIC

GROWTH EQUITIES): "THIS REAL ESTATE

DEBACLE CLEARLY IS GOING TO HARM THE
ECONOMY. THE ONLY QUESTION IS WILL IT

HARM THE ECONOMY TO THE POINT WHERE IT
TIPS IT INTO RECESSION? OR WILL IT

MERELY SLOW GROWTH?"

(oncam)

The Fed's next move will probably be
clinched by next week's employment

report....Most analysts expect job
numbers to stay about the same.

the U.S. has escaped a severe hurricane
hit. But for Mexico, Central America
and the Caribbean, the season was
anything but quiet.

Forecasters had originally predicted 17
named storms, nine of them hurricanes.

As the season winds down, only 14
storms formed, six of them hurricanes.

The summer of 07 did produce some magic
moments.

Hurricanes Dean and Felix ramped up to
Category Five status, the highest on
the intensity scale.

The same hurricanes also made it into
the record books as the first two
Category Five storms to make landfall
in the same season.

Hurricane Humberto also caught
forecasters attention, becoming the
fastest developing storm on record to
be so close to land. It strengthened
from tropical depression to hurricane
in 14 hours just off the Texas coast.

While hurricane experts are puzzled by
the lack of storms this season, the
search for ways to improve forecast
marches on.

This is the Aerosonde. It's an unmanned
aircraft that is being tested at
Wallops Island, Virginia.

It's made to fly at low altitudes, but
long distances, soaring over over
3-thousand miles on a single tank of

gas.

The aerosonde got its test in hurricane
Noel, flying just over 300 feet above
the surface of the Atlantic. A place,
no manned-aircraft would dare go.>>
