The biggest outage occurred on
Goodview Road.

went down on power lines.

miles per hour at times.

tough for crews battling a forest fire
in Botetourt and Rockbridge Counties.


It's called the "Smith Flats
Fire", and right now, it is still only
10 percent contained.

Hunters were first to spot the
fire on Saturday, and the fire has now
burned 650 acres.


Firefighters face several
challenges. Along with the high winds
today, rough terrain and spotty
communications have made their job even
more difficult.


For the moment, anyway, there are
no homes in danger.

fire in Franklin County that had been
extinguished to flare up again.


On Friday - crews spent about
four-hours putting out the eight-acre
fire on Flint Ridge Road.


After today's gusts, embers
flared within fire lines.


Three crews are there now again,
keeping an eye on situation.

This was the scene in Maine this
morning.


Forecasters say parts of the
state could get as much as 20 inches of
snow.


This same storm system is blamed
for at least 14 deaths last week when
snow blanketed the Midwest.

And a potent storm made it
presence felt yesterday on the Oregon
Coast with winds gusting over 100
miles-per-hour.


And authorities there are
expecting even stiffer winds into this
morning.


There were also reports of waves
reaching 40-feet.


The unusual storm is the product
of a combination of moisture from three
tropical typhoons and cold air coming
down from Alaska.

Authorities refuse to say how the
suspects ended up at Taylor s home and

them to a break-in there eight days
before


the shooting.

Taylor--his number 21 was on the

every player and there was a moment of


silence before the Redskins game


against the Buffalo Bills.



Sean Taylor had his problems....dirty

vote on constitutional changes. Chavez
has been a frequent and vocal critic of
the United States, and the measure
would have let him run for re-election

were killed early yesterday morning
when their car went down an embankment.

in Roanoke on Hollins Road, just off
Plantation.


Police say the men, who were in
their 20's, were driving too fast when
they tried to turn onto the bridge.


The car crashed through a
guardrail...vaulted an embankment, hit
the ground and flipped - throwing both
men.


The car landed on top of them on
the railroad tracks.


Because the crash was on the
railroad..police had a difficult time
getting to it.

heavy damage to a Roanoke business, and
left one firefighter with a minor
injury.


The call came in around 4:00 A-M.
Firefighters found heavy smoke when
they arrived at Duck's Auto Glass and
Wheels on Shenandoah Avenue.


A spokesman for the department
says the firefighter suffered "a slight
injury,' but wasn't transported to the
hospital.


There's no word on the cause.
Damages are estimated at 54- thousand
dollars.
