Shop clerk injured by gunfire
yesterday.
Police say it was 39-year old
Steve Matthew Beheler. His family
doesn't want to talk about the
shooting, but they've reportedly said
he's "going to be okay."

are still battling a forest fire in
Rockbridge and Botetourt Counties.
The Smith Flats Fire has
burned about 700 acres of private and
National Forest land a few miles from

will skirt through West Virginia and
parts of Virginia Wednesday. This will
provide occasional snow showers, and a

been open.
It's a place where folks who need
some extra help can shop for presents
like toys, clothing and other holiday
gifts.
Those who qualify can even
volunteer to earn more presents for
their families.

Virginia Tech will be the program's
15th straight Post-season berth.
A streak that dates back to the
1993 season. A member of that team was
Antonio Freeman. This past weekend in
Jacksonville, the 9 year N-F-L Vetern
was inducted as an A-C-C Legend.
The fact that Freeman
accomplished what he did after leaving
Tech can be traced to what his Head
Coach taught him while a Hokie.

Today it is Tommy Bowden the
Clemson Head Coach that has been given
a contract extension. Bowden who seems
to be on the Hot Seat every season had
been mentioned as a possible candidate
for the Arkansas Coaching Job.
He has a 69 and 41 record in his
9 seasons as the Tigers Head man
including a 9 and 3 Record this season,
2 of those losses coming to the A-C-C
title Game participants Virginia Tech
and Boston College.
Clemson will play in the
Chik-Fil-A Bowl against Auburn on
December 31st.

The former wide receiver is
headed into space this Thursday.

VO-NAT Melvin, who is now 43, graduated
from Heritage High School in 1982. He
then went on to Richmond and majored
in chemistry. He joined the astronaut
corps in 1998 after working at NASA's
Langley Research Center in Hampton.
He'll help deliver the European Space
Agency's Columbus Laboratory to the
International Space Station and
Thursday he'll go up on the Space
Shuttle Atlantis.
Melvin was a solid football and
track star at Heritage and later he set
career records at UR for receiving
yards and receptions including this TD
in a Spider win over Tech in 1985 He
also is a member of the school's sports
hall of fame.
