VO-NAT The winter weather did not cause
problems in the Roanoke Valley. But
some areas did see some accumulating
snow. Folks in the New River Valley got
their first "real" snowfall of the
season.
Drivers experienced the worst of
it this morning on their way to work.
By afternoon, snow covered the
Drill Field at Virginia Tech.
The roads cleared later in
Blacksburg and that light snowfall even
melted away.
*CG locator Montgomery Co. Folks in Giles County however - still
:05 have white stuff on the ground.
There was about an inch of snow
on grassy areas, and the flurries kept
coming all day.
In Botetourt County, and the
Alleghany Highlands, the storm dropped
one to three inches of snow.
That left slippery roads,
difficult driving and a rash of
accidents.
Students In Alleghany County made
it to school as the snow began to fall,
but the school system decided to send
them home two hours early.
By midafternoon, Covington was in
the clear... Most streets were free of
snow and ice, and residents were
cleaning what was left on their
sidewalks.

18:23:25 (Sot from witness: too quick

sounded like construction at first.

eight people before taking his own

Officers are also executing a search
