western Virginia, but freezing rain
this morning contributed to accidents
throughout the area.
At least three wrecks west of
Richmond resulted in fatalities,
including one in Bedford County and
another in Pittsylvania County.

commute in the Roanoke Valley,
surprising drivers and causing dozens
of accidents.
School buses were on the road
when the trouble started, and more than

Center. As a warm front moves through,
several waves of showers will ride
along it. This will produce cloudy
skies and the occassional shower. Most
areas should see lows above freezing
tonight, but those in sheltered valleys
should be cautious when heading out
tonight and early Saturday. Saturday
starts with plenty of clouds (20%
sprinkle/shower) with partly sunny
skies developing by the afternoon.
Temperatures get a push into the mid
50s for the first day of the weekend.
Saturday night will be variably cloudy
with lows near 40. Sunday is cloudy
with a very slight chance of a late
afternoon or evening shower, but
generally it'll just be a mainly cloudy
day. Highs are forecast near 60. The
beginning of next week will be
headlined with warmer temperatures.
Monday and Tuesday expect highs in the
mid and upper 60s with partly sunny
skies. Rain chances are very low during
this time period. Wednesday calls for
highs in the mid 60s with sun and
clouds and a 30% chance of showers.

the two time defending national champs
from Appalachian State hosted the
Richmond Spiders with a berth in next
Friday's title game on the line.
Appy State was just a blur in the
first quarter and much of the first
half as quarterback Armanti Edwards -
the man who killed Michigan rished for
over 200 yards and scored four TDs in
the first two periods of the game. The
Mountaineers were in complete control.
But, Richmond managed to work its
way back into the game thanks to its
quarterback Eric Ward. The Spiders
rallied to tie it in the third, but
App. State ends Richmond's eight
