Route 460 in Giles County tonight, but
it was nearly at a standstill this
morning thanks to a fuel spill in
Narrows.

It happened around 4 A-M at the
Liberty Station just off westbound 460.
Police say a truck driver was
trying to fill up his tank with diesel,
when he apparently got frustrated and
threw the gas nozzle into a fence.
The driver then left the station,
not realizing that fuel was still
leaking into the parking lot.
More than 150 gallons spilled
onto 460 and down to the New River
before the tank was shut off, but
officials say this shouldn't have a big
impact on the environment.

combination of bad driving and new
people in the area have led to an
increase in accidents.
And as News 7's Tim Saunders
shows us, some are worried things are
going to get worse, before they get
better.

(END SOT) along Nemmo road since he was 10 years
old.
He still remembers when it was
just a quiet country path.
A far cry from today.
"I've never seen people drive
like they drive through here"
Pastel says just crossing the
road to check his mail can be a life or
death experience.
"Don't none of em drive on their
side of the road. They drive in the
middle."
Abon Cawley says the bad driving
has driven many people indoors.
"I know a lot of people that used
to get out and walk. They won't do it
now, cause the people's flying."
Between January of 2004 and May
of this year, police have responded to
14 accidents on Nemmo Road.
9 of those led to injuries.
3 people were killed.
Those deaths happened over
Memorial Day weekend in what some say
is the most serious crash along the
road to date.
The driver that caused this crash
was reportedly going more than 80 miles
an hour.
"I don't think they ever look at
the speedometer. I think they're just
following the road and never let off of
it."
Because of these accidents, V-DOT
has lowered the speed limit on Nemmo
Road from 55 to 40 miles an hour. And
while neighbors say that has helped
some, they say drivers still need to
slow down.
"Ain't nothing we can do.
Bedford County's got to do it. And if
they don't care enough about the people
in here to get out here and try to
figure out some way to stop this, it's
going to be a whole lot more getting
killed."
Cawley says drivers just need to
use a little common sense.
"Please slow down. Drive with a
little respect for the road and the
people that's out on the road walking."
Advice that could prevent another
bad accident on a road that's already
seen too many.

taken from Michael Vick's dogfighting
operation have found news homes.

VO-NAT Forty-seven pit-bulls will be
placed with eight rescue organizations
-- including two here in Virginia.
A judge signed off on the plan
earlier this week on recommendations by
the court appointed guardian for the
dogs.
The transfers should take place
within the next month.
Vick faces up to five years in
prison when he's sentenced on Monday
for his role in a dogfighting
conspiracy that was run on his property
in Surry County.

limit access to a database that list
all Virginians who are allowed to carry
concealed handguns.

restrict access to the information
after The Roanoke Times published the
database following a Freedom of
Information Act request.
The state police ended access to
the list on the advice of Attorney
General Bob McDonnell.
The proposed legislation would
keep the state police from releasing
the names of more than 135 thousand
people with concealed-carry permits.

Martinsville.
Southern Finishing Incorpoarted

100 University of Virginia students are
learning...when it rains it pours.
The students were flooded out of
their dorm Thursday when a sprinkler
system went off.
School officials say someone hung
their shirt on the sprinkler inside
Brice House.
Cleanup crews have been working
to dry it out..but for some it doesn't
look good.

Atlantis until tomorrow at the
earliest.
It said it might tighten the
launch rules, at astronauts' request,
to cope with unreliable gauges in the
fuel tank.
Shuttle managers say they will
meet again tomorrow to decide whether
to accept that proposal and proceed.
Meanwhile, Leland Melvin and the
other astronauts are awaiting liftoff.
The 43-year-old Lynchburg native
is a former NFL player and wide
receiver at the University of Richmond.

Hawks took on Gate City in the Group A,
Division Two title tilt.
