OQ=TS, News 7, RKE. << The Roanoke Civic Center is one
(END SOT) of several Red Cross evacuation

facilities in our area.

This one is set up with beds for
30 people - and officials say if more
show up, they'll be prepared.

"There's so many thousands of
people without power and we don't know
how many we'll see."

But the Red Cross is gearing up
for any possibility,

Rolling in food, snacks and a
comfortable place to stay for people
like Debbie Hairston and her one year
old.

"When I seen that the electricity
wasn't coming back on, I was like we've
got to get out of here and find
somewhere that's warm - and I couldn't
sleep in my car all night, not with
her."

Katherine Muse lost power too,
but instead of coming to the shelter to
sleep, she's here to work.

"I just decided I had nothing
better to do, so I just decided to come
down here to the Roanoke Civic Center
and see if they could use my help."

Power is in issue in Montvale
too, where the Red Cross has been
taking folks in all day.

"We had no electricity and we
have this two month old grandson of
mine and we needed some warm milk."

The Montvale shelter was

originally set up as an evacuation
point for residents fleeing the local
brush fires, but Red Cross volunteers
say anyone's welcome - and they're
working to make sure folks who can't
get down to the shelter, have what they
need to brave the weather.

"The way it is right now and the
power outages, just make sure you've
got warm clothes and blankets you can
put on and snuggle up and stay close."

The evacuation centers in
Montvale and here at the Civic Center
will be open all night, so if anyone
does need a warm place to stay, they'll
be able to find it right here. Tim

< the SkyTracker7 Forecast Center. There
were numerous reports of wind damage
Sunday across the area. From downed
trees, power outages, forest fires and
property damage, it was a heck of a
wind storm!

Winds slowly begin diminishing
overnight, but it will certainly remain
breezy. With lows in the teens, a busy
westerly wind will put wind chill
values in the lower single digits.
Skies will remain clear.

High pressure moving into the area will
provide sunny skies Monday with west
winds 10-15mph. High temperatures are
forecast in the upper 30s in most
locations.

Tuesday calls for partly sunny skies
and a 30% shower chance. Expect warmer
highs near 50.

There's a better chance of rain
Wednesday, especially in the morning.
Highs top out near 50.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Clear, cold and windy.
Low: 19

MONDAY: Sunny and cooler. High: 38

Have a great week! Meteorologist Jay
