in federal court all over again.

The jury in the case of Tony Majette,
who was accused of possesion of crack
cocaine with intent to distribute,
declaired itself hung about an hour and
a half ago ... then went back to
deliberate some more.
Majette says the 20 grams of crack
belonged to Ore, who was in the car
with him when Blacksburg police pulled
the two men over in June of 2006.
The court could set a re-trial date
for as early as next month ...

Breaking news out of Radford.
A man escaped from police custody
about 90 minutes ago and is now
standing on a train trestle over the
New River between Pulaski and Radford.
Police say they picked the man up on
a parole violation.
We don't know how he slipped away
from officers.
Several streets are blocked off as
police try to negotitate with the man,
who has threatened to commit suicide.
News-7 has a crew on the scene, we'll
update this story as soon as we get new
information.

The woman believed to be the
mother of four girls whose bodies were
found in a Washington, D-C home faces
murder charges.

Military officials have ordered the
roommate of a 20-year-old pregnant
Marine who disappeared in December to
return from training in California to
answer questions about the
case.

to be the last person to speak with
Maria Lauterbach, who is about eight
months pregnant.
But Brown did not describe Durham
as a suspect, adding that the case
remained a missing persons
investigation.
Search warrants say the missing
Marine's stepmother has told
investigators that her stepdaughter
claimed she was raped by a senior
officer at her command.
But the statement also says her
stepdaughter was bipolar and had a
history of lying.

Governor Tim Kaine threw a
surprise in his State of the
Commonwealth speech last night when he
called on lawmakers to get rid of
abuser fees.

That's the controversial law the
General Assembly passed last year and
the governor signed.
Since July first, motorists
charged with reckless driving or
driving under the influence of drugs or
alcohol have been charged hefty fees
that range from 750 to three- thousand
dollars.
When the governor called for a
repeal last night lawmakers on both
sides of the aisle stood and cheered.

An Air Canada jet made an
emergency landing this morning after
the plane hit turbulence injuring
several people.

hospital once the plane landed in
Calgary.
They are in stable condition.
Three others suffered minor
injuries.
There were 88 people on the
plane, which was en route from

turbulence hit, her friend "flew up and
hit the ceiling and went back down."

A woman who calls herself the meanest
mom on the planet says she is trying to
teach her son a lesson.

Jane Hambleton decided to sell the car.
The ad reads: "Totally uncool parents
who obviously don't love teenage son,
selling his car. Only driven for three
weeks before snoopy mom who needs to
get a life found booze under front
seat."
The car was sold and Hambleton says she
has gotten about 70 calls from people
thanking her for being a responsible
parent.
The only critic is her son, who
Hambleton says is "very, very unhappy."

moisture will provide much needed rain
for the area. It's almost a spring-like
weather pattern with mild temperatures
tonight and Friday. THURSDAY NIGHT:
Expect cloudy skies and periods of
rain. With clouds and a south breeze
ahead of the front, temperatures will
remain mild in the low to mid 40s.

Whatever the case, record or not - it
will be mild ahead of the front! THE
WIND: There is a Wind Advisory for the
southwest viewing area until early
Friday morning. South wind gusts could
approach 50mph in places like Tazewell,
Galax, Bland and Marion overnight. THE
RAIN: Rain could be heavy at times
early Friday morning. Some areas could
receive 0.50"-1.00" of rain. An
isolated thunderstorm is also possible

winter, Roanoke regional airport has
received just a little over a half-inch
of snowfall. But as Meteorologist Brent
Watts tells us, don't get discouraged.
Some of the snowiest winters started
out much like this

Miami one day, or even Maine the next.
All it takes is one big storm to change
the perception of an a winter.
The winter of 1965-66 was much like
this year, only a half inch of snow
fell before January 1st.
But as this NEWS7 Film Archive Shows,
the weather turned rapidly raw after
the New Year. A blizzard struck
Virginia and the Northeastern United
States. It was the second snowstorm to
hit Virginia in a week. At the same
time snow drifts formed, arctic air was
settling in dropping temperatures into
the teens.
January 1966 ended up going down as
Roanoke's snowiest on record with 41
inches.
On the other hand, we could also get
through the winter with very little
snow.
In the winter of 1975-76, only ONE INCH
of snow fell in Roanoke.

Dave Leitao and the Virginia men
got a bit of bad news this afternoon.
Leitao said on the ACC's weekly
teleconference that freshman guard Sam
Zeglinski from Philadelphia will miss
the remainder of the season due to
recurring ankle problems. Zeglinski
has played in 62 minutes over eight
games and is averaging 0.9 points, with
15 assists and nine turnovers. The
school will seek a redshirt year for
Zeglinski.

The first session of Sprint Cup
testing is in the books at Daytona
International Speedway in advance of
next month's running of the 500, it
will be the first event at the World
Center of Racing with the car of
tomorrow that made its superspeedway
debut last year at Talladega.
So far, the winged machine is
getting pretty good reviews from the
drivers.

was prepared to slash
interest rates as needed to prevent
housing and credit problems
from plunging the country into a
recession.
That news put investors in a buying
mood.
The Dow gained nearly 118 points to

dollars.
The cheap price tag makes it
possible for tens of millions of people
across the world to own a car.
Critics say this could cause more
pollution.
But the company's owner says it's
the least polluting car in India.
The compact four-door also
averages 50 miles a gallon.
But it comes without some common
features, such as air conditioning and

It's Germany's newest polar bear cub
that seems destined to win over hearts,
just like its famous predecessor...
We're calling the bear "it," but zoo
officials in Nuremberg believe the
four-week-old cub is probably a female.
The cub was taken from its mother
earlier this week because of concerns
that she might harm or kill the
newborn.
The cub is the first in Germany to
be hand raised by its keepers since
Knut, who became a celebrity after
being rescued when his mother rejected
him.
