morning for a man involved in a car
wreck.

Explorer.
Even though authorities say he
was pretty banged up, he crawled out of
the SUV - and asked witnesses to take
him home.
They refused, and Gentry left the
scene on foot.
State Police officers found him
not long after though and charged him.
We're told alcohol did play a
factor in the crash

(END SOT) Roanoke Civic Center. Thousands of
people are out here to see about a half
dozen acts. Some of them well known,
some of them not so well known. One of
the more popular acts is "Mercy Me."
They've been touring all over the
country for years. Also, Mandisa - she
was a contestant on a recent season of
American Idol. But this is also a
chance for some lesser known acts to
get some exposure. We talked with one
band member who says this has been a
once in a lifetime experience.
Chris Wilson/Conner's Vine: It's
actually our first National Tour and
it's been a great experience."
Chris Wilson is a guitarist for
the band "Conner's Vine."
Until recently, he was playing in
coffeehouses, but he says Winter Jam is
helping his band reach a whole new
group of fans.
"A lot of bands that are just
getting started like myself are able to
get in front of a large audience and
promote ourselves for the next couple
of months."
The event is drawing in concert
goers from all over Virginia and even
out of state.
Some arrived more than 6 hours
early.

Resident: "We keep on planning to get
here earlier and earlier, so now we got
here the earliest we could possible get
here. Usually we get right at the
middle of the line."
Francesca Digregorio/Roanoke
Resident: "We want to make sure we have
good seats. I have a little leg
injury, so I want to make sure I'm
somewhere comfortable that I can enjoy
it."
Wilson says the cheap tickets -
just 10 dollars at the door, are a big
draw for families.
"I'm used to paying 50 to 60
dollars or more for concert tickets a
lot of times. The fact that for 10
bucks you can see 6 or 7 bands at one
time is a very, very unique thing."
"Officials say this is one of the
larger events we'll see at the civic
center this year. If you didn't have a
chance to make it out, Winter Jam is
touring in about 30 different cities
across the country, so you still have a
chance to see these concerts at a later

getting crowded - but one man is hoping
his name and ideas will make him stand
out.

Rich Cranwell announced his
candidacy this morning at Roanoke's
Dumas Center.
Cranwell is the son of former
state delegate Dick Cranwell.
The Roanoke native is centering
his campaign around three issues:
education, public safety, and economic
development.
Cranwell supports a plan that
would bring an amphitheater to Roanoke,
and he says the city should embrace
plans to build a restaurant on Mill
Mountain.

thrown off a bridge by their dad..has

decomposed child this morning.
Searchers are using sonar
equipment to try and track down the
other three kids.
Police say the father originally
confessed to throwing the kids which
range from four month to three year old
off an 80 foot bridge on Monday because

lawyer, police say he took back his
confession.

and a few light rain showers as an area
of low pressure forms off the North
Carolina coast, while another
disturbance drops in from the Ohio
Valley. There was talk earlier in the
week of the possibility of some light
snow, but it doesn't look like that's
in the cards as temperatures will
simply be too warm. Highs are forecast
in the mid 40s (much cooler) Sunday.
There will be mountain snow showers
develop Sunday night (higher elevations
of the NRV, Highlands and the
Greenbrier). These will likely continue
on the ridge tops through Monday -
maybe even into Tuesday. While most of
us won't see any snow, a northwest flow
of wind will put the big chill on the
entire region for the upcoming coming
week with highs near 40 and lows in the
20s.

Sports has learned that starting
cornerback Macho Harris will declare
for the NFL Draft, forgoing his final
season of eligibility with the Hokies.

Harris is projected to be a 2nd
