Roanoke attorney Tom Farrell last
Monday.
The Jeep Police were looking for
is registered to Jeffrey Martin Young
of Floyd.

police are looking at Jeffrey Young.
According to witnesses Young spent
most of the morning of the accident
here at the Country Store Stop In, just
miles from where Farrell was killed.

Scruggs says Young was driving a
white Jeep Wrangler.
At one point, Young took a cab and
told Scruggs he was having car trouble.
The next day, last Tuesday, Robert
Young Towing was hired to pick up the
jeep from a parking lot next door to
the Country Store.

drivers slowing down since the
accident.
Some still won't let their child play
in the front yard, one has even put up

They're hopeful road improvements
will begin soon and Tom Farrell's

jeep was found with a damaged front
end, and reddish orange marks similar
in color to the reflective running vest
Farrell was wearing when he was killed.

wounding following an incident
Wednesday afternoon in Floyd County.

parking lot of Slaughter's Supermarket,
when she was hit by a 1987 Nissan.
The driver, a man the victim
didn't know, got out of the car and
began to assault her with a stick.
Deputies arrested Young in the
parking lot a short time later.

Almost three hours later 5:50 am..
Tom Farrell is hit and killed on
Springlawn Avenue while running-
Police receive tips about a white
Jeep with a black top in the Springlawn
area... but cannot find the Jeep.
Last Tuesday, January 29th the owner
of a private lot near the Country Store
calls a towing company to remove an
abandoned vehicle.. a white jeep.
A day later, last Wednesday Young is
arrested in Floyd County accused of
hitting a woman with a car and beating
her with a stick.. in the parking lot
of Slaughter's supermarket.
Police say Young was driving a
different vehicle- owned by a family
member.
Floyd county deputies notify
Roanoke County... telling them Young is
known to drive a white Jeep.
The search begins for that jeep but
is unsuccessful
One week after the fatal crash.. on
Monday Roanoke County police put out a
call to the public to help find the
white jeep wrangler..
police find that jeep at Robert Young
towing in Roanoke.
The search warrant reveals police
found damage to the front: paint
shards, exposing bare metal. And
reddish orange marks on the headlight.

to ban smoking in restaurants and most
public places.
There are exceptions for tobacco
stores and smoking rooms in hotels IF
certain standards are met.
Supporters say the science is
clear.
Second hand smoke kills one-
thousand Virginians each year.
Opponents don't like banning a
legal activity.
The bill lets local governments
take the ban even further.... and
Lynchburg Senator Steve Newman fears
private homes and vehicles will be

The measure now goes to the House
of Delegates where it's been stomped

haven't heard a word from the company.

Nearly 25-hundred people walked
off the job on Friday after the United
Auto Workers Local 20-69 contract
expired.
Since then, workers have been
picketing on four hour shifts several
times a day at the entrance to the
plant.
The workers say they're striking
to keep their wage and benefits

Volvo from eliminating certain health
and safety practices at the plant.

Chatham are in serious trouble for
bringing a gun to school.
The sheriff's office says the
weapon was brought to school last
Thursday, and now two 15-year-old boys
are charged.
They were released to their

In Las Vegas, an emergency room
has a machine filled with 89 commonly
prescribed medications.
The idea is patients will start
feeling better a lot sooner....
It works a lot like a car
wash.....you get a code but the catch
is, you have to use it within 24 hours
or it becomes void.
The machine also checks a
person's id and is equipped with a
webcam.

Back in 2003, Panzau
(PAN-zoo)drove home drunk - four times
over the legal limit - and crashed her
car.
She lost her left arm and nearly
her life.
Panzau (PAN-zoo) spent months in
the hospital and had more than 30
surgeries.

their love to the extreme ...

VO-NAT Larry and Ruth both needed heart
surgery ... the 80 year olds entered
the hospital together late last month.
Ruth had her surgery first ...
then Larry had his ..
The couple ... who has been
married 46 years ... says they are
inseparable. Now in February, the
month associated with hearts, the
couple is recuperating together in
side-by-side rooms in the hospital's
cardiac care unit.
They're both expected to go home
this week.

pretty good success against basketball
teams in the ACC since they joined the
conference four years ago.
They've been able to win at
Carolina and at Duke, but beating N.C.
State anywhere has been a challenge.
Tonight in Raleigh, the Hokies
lost to the Wolfpack for the sixth
straight time.

Tonight, his team came out redhot
in the first half. Freshman J.J.
Hickson scored 21 points for the game
and Dennis Horner came off the bench
and helped the Wolfpack race out to a

thanks in part to Cheick Diakite's
follow slam.
Tech played much better in the
second half using a 17 to 8 run and
some tough inside play from Deron
Washington and Jeff Allen - who
finished with 15.

hit the skids since starting Conference
Play. The Keydets won their first 2
Big South Games but have lost their
last 4.
They were hosting Radford this
evening at Cameron Hall. The
Highlanders got their first Conference
win this past weekend.

The Highlanders got off to a
fantastic start to the game, they would

break and V-M-I would continue to
widdle away in the second eventually
getting the lead behind the Holmes
twins. They both topped the 20 point
