their say in the Presidential
primaries, the latest poll identifies
Obama and McCain as the clear front
runners.

that Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton
with a three-to-two margin in Virginia,
and John McCain commands a majority-
-now that Mitt Romney's out of the
race.
Here's a quick look at the
numbers from NEWS-7's exclusive
overnight poll of Virginia voters.

over 65 and those in this part of the
state, while Obama polls well in the

voters in our area received recorded
messages or packets in the mail.
State Police say the phone calls
and packets were generated by "Women's
Voices Women Vote", a nonprofit
organization based in Washington, DCTERMS.

woman accused of shooting a man in
Floyd County last night.
The man called the sheriff's
office around 11 last night saying he
was shot in the head.
His injuries turned out to be
minor, but they issued a warrant for
Tina Peebles, charging her with
aggravated malicious wounding.
The victim has not been named,
but he told deputies Peebles left with
another man.

taking care of nearly 60 head of
malnourished cattle.

originally got a tip about dead,
unburied cows on John Leonard Junior's
farm.
When officers went to check it
out, they noticed all of the cattle
were in bad shape.
Most had ribs showing.
A local judge ordered Leonard's
cattle be temporarily seized - so they
could be properly cared for and fed by
the county.
Leonard, the owner, said he
didn't have enough money to feed the
animals.
He could face criminal charges.

the state will now allow schools to use
"banked days" before going to make up
days.
Roanoke County has three-..

new buildings to call home.

at the HopeTree Family Services site.
The center used to be the
Virginia Baptist Children's Home and
Family Services Center- now two new
group homes are going up for the
developmentally disabled.

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. The jet stream is in an active
pattern with several disturbances
racing through over the weekend. The
first piece of energy will arrive early
Saturday. Most hometowns will only
notice increasing clouds, but a few
mountain areas may see some light snow
showers with little accumulation. A
stronger disturbance rolls in Saturday
night dragging a cold front behind it.
Light snow showers are possible (20%)
late Saturday afternoon and evening.
Again, not much moisture, but the wind
and colder air is a different story.
Latest models are indicating winds as
high as 60mph in the mountains and
45mph elsewhere starting late Saturday
night and throughout Sunday. Colder air
will also rush in, with highs only
managing low 40s Sunday afternoon and
lows in the 20s. After the brief cold
spell, temperatures begin moderating
early in the week with partly sunny
skies as high pressure remains in
control. FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy,
passing sprinkles. Low: 34 SATURDAY:
Variably cloudy, turning windy. Low: 55
SATUDAY NIGHT: Flurries, very windy.
Low: 36 SUNDAY: Windy, much colder.

Football Schedule for this upcoming
season and if you are a Virginia Tech
fan - you better fire up your frequent
flyer miles.
After opening up with East
Carolina on the road in Charlotte - the
Hokies travel to North Carolina and
Lincoln, Nebraska at the end of
September and that's just the first 6
games of the season.
The final half of the season will
include road trips to Boston College,
Florida State and Miami.
Tech will again wrap up the
season against UVA.
Virginia opens with USC. The
Trojans are expected to be the
preseason number one or two teams in
the nation. Virginia gets four of its
first six games at home - but the
second half of the schedule will be
tough.
Virginia finishes with six
conferecne games including road games
at Georgia Tech, Wake and Tech.

Friday Football Extra's coaching
legends will be honored later this
fall.

school announced this afternoon that
the football field at the school will
be named in honor of the program's
winningest coach - Jim Hickam.
The official ceremony will take
place at the first home game of the
season in September.
Hickam coached 406 games in his
career, 84 of them at Pulaski and the
rest at Northside.
In December of 2005, Hickam and
the school parted on less than ideals
terms, but time does have a way of
healing things - and this is a much
deserved honor for one of Friday
Football Extra's all-time greats.
Hickam, coached 31 years at
Northside. He will turn 67 this May.
