During a prolonged power outage
like this one, there are some things to
consider.

If you have any elderly
neighbors, you want to check on them to
see how they are handling the
situation.

If there's a downed power line
near your home, never try to move it.

Wait for the utility crews to
arrive.

And if you're using a kerosene
heater to stay warm, never refuel the
tank while inside your home.

Take it outside.

President Gene Nichol has announced
he's resigning from his post, effective
immediately.

Nichol's decision was outlined in an
E- mail to the university community,

after he was advised that his contract
would not be renewed in July.

Nichol has come under fire for his
decisions during his nearly three years
on the job.

Most recently, he was criticized
for allowing an art show featuring sex
workers to be held on campus.
