hoped for it... Early this morning it
came.

tables on forest fires burning across
the area.

fire in Roanoke County is about
30-percent contained. There are no
homes are in danger.
Rain also helped the other
big fires in the area
Both fires in Bedford County are
now fully contained.
And a fire in Craig County
was about 40-percent contained this
morning.
Fire fighters expect that figure
to improve tonight.

100-thousand customers were in the dark
in our region.

figure out why small plane crashed in
North Carolina two weeks ago.

February 1 They say there is no evidence of
mechanical problems or fire in a
twin-engine plane that nose-dived in a
Mount Airy neighborhood, killing six.
The group was heading to the
Primland Resort in Meadows of Dan,
Virginia.
According to a preliminary report
from the National Transportation Safety
Board, the plane came in too high and
missed its initial approach.
Investigators say the aircraft
continued banking to the left and
started climbing again, before
nose-diving out of the clouds and
crashing into a back yard.

They teach french words and the
culture to around 50 kids from grades K
to 5.
The program is after school and
is a way for Madame Couture's students

:00 First National Bank shareholders
were waiting for the final vote count
today at the Event Center in
Christiansburg.
Less than an hour ago, a member
of the First National Bank shareholders
committee confirmed the merger just
barely passed with 50 -point-two-seven
percent.
More than half of the
shareholders votes were needed for that
to happen of course.
The 240-million dollar plan was
proposed last year by executives with
F-N-B and the Virginia Financial Group.

Kaine- who says there'll be a state
budget shortfall of one- point- four
Billion dollars.
He suggests reducing proposed
salary increases for state employees
and teachers.
He's also cutting money out of
his pet projects... like expanding
state sponsored pre- K.... which would
take a 12- million dollar cut under his
proposal.
Localities will also take a hit.
Nearly half of all state revenues
go to local governments.

lyn's) son Michael was killed by one
four years ago... a woman who had been
convicted of D-U-I before..
The House of Delegates has passed
a bill that would require ignition
interlock systems be installed in a
person's vehicle the FIRST time they're
caught driving drunk.
The driver would have to blow
into the device to prove he or she is
sober before the vehicle would start.
Supporters say laws that punish
people after driving drunk aren't
working.

Daytona came back to life today with
several hours of practice for
tomorrow's Gatorade Duals - the 150
mile long qualifying races that help
set the starting grid for Sunday's
Daytona 500.

Speed Rookie Jacques Villeneuve - the
former Formula One champ - got
introduced to the outside wall this
afternoon - messing up his Toyota.
The Busch brothers also had a few
exciting moments as Kurt gets losses in
the Miller LIte Dodge and drifts up to
the outside wall before saving it.
Kyle also almost lost his Gibbs'
Toyota down low - but he also kept the
M&Ms Camry from getting scraped up.
The Hendrick cars have the
biggest worries. All four of them
started losing engines after just a few
laps of practice. As a result,
Earnhardt, Johnson, Gordon and Mears
will all be at the back of the field
for tomorrow's races.

JMU Mickey Matthews had interviewed
:00 at South Alabama, and the school was
set to offer Matthews the reins of its
football program in Mobile.
But this morning the 54-year-old
Matthews, who has coached the Dukes
since 1999, told his players that he
had decided to stay in Harrisonburg.
Matthews is 64-and 44 during his
JMU tenure and he led the school to the
2004 Division I-AA national
championship.
James Madison was 8 and 4 this
past season - losing to eventual
national champ Applachian State.

on the road to High Point last night,
their 3rd Big South loss this season.
The Lady Highlanders will try to
stay in the league race this weekend,
hosting Charleston Southern at the
Dedmon Center Saturday.
Kelli Darden will no doubt do
her part. Earlier this month, the
senior became Radford's all time leader
in blocked shots, and now has more than
260 rejections in her career.
