dealing with the sudden loss of five
students.

at Northern Illinois University.
A gunman went on a suicidal rampage
in a packed lecture hall... gunning
down
five students before killing himself.
The shooter was Steven Kazmierczak , a
former student with a clean record.
He did not leave a suicide note, but
Officials say he snapped after he
stopped taking his medication.

"He had stopped taking those
medications and he had become somewhat
erratic in
the past couple of weeks."

And during the past few weeks ... the
27 year old bought two of the four guns
he used during the massacre. - a
nine millimeter, and a shotgun.

had a coat on top of the belt that
carried the weapons."
In addition to the fatalities, more
than dozens students were wounded, two
remain in critical condition.

shootings... a report of a weapon at
E.C. Glass High School.

About a dozen officers were quick to
respond, but no weapons were found.
It all started when a student went
to the school resource officer and said
another student had made a threat
toward someone else.
Police showed up around dismissal
time, students were urged to get out of
the school and go home.

in the Hollins area of Roanoke County.

at the Shadwell Drive and Hollins Road
train crossing.
Police say the driver of this green
car was driving over the tracks when
the signal came down and he got struck
by a Norfolk Southern Train.
The driver was taken to the hospital
with non life threatening injuries.
Traffic is being diverted in that
area.

more acreage in one day, than the state
normally loses in one year.
And fire season is just getting
started.

Ridge Mountain Fire in Roanoke County.
That fire is now about 80 percent
contained.

Police now say it was D- meyer.. an
officer whose been on the force for
eight years-- who fired that shot.
It happened off Clifton Street
yesterday.
Roanoke police it started when
officer Meyer pulled the 17-year old
for a traffic stop-
The teen then took off on foot-
when police ordered the teen to show
his hands- police say the boy instead
lowered his hands out of the officer's
sight. Myer then fired once.. he's on
paid suspension-
Poliice did not find a weapon on the
teen, Joshua Brown-he's now recovering.

been convicted of murdering his
girlfriend and her unborn child.

Bobby Cutts Jr. could face the death
penalty.
Cutts cried on the stand during the
trial as he told jurors he accidentally
killed Jessie Davis by putting an elbow
to her throat.
He said he panicked and dumped her body
in a park.
Prosecutors say Cutts strangled
Davis over mounting child support.
The couple's young son was found
home alone and gave investigators their
first clues in the case.
He told investigators "Mommy's in the
rug," and "Daddy's mad."

Coach. Woods takes over a V-M-I
program that has won 3 games over the
past 2 seasons under Jim Reid who left
to take a job with the Miami Dolphins.
Woods who has been an offensive

including U-V-A inherits a team that
has been running the Triple Option.

marks the 50th running of the Daytona
500.
The Great American race was
anythng but the spectacle it has become
when it began five decades ago.
Richard Petty was 21 years old in
that first 500 - that was won by his
dad Lee Petty in a photo finish.
There was no TV coverage, no
internet, and it took four days for
NASCAR to declare a winner and get the
official result in the paper.

Atlantis are making a last space walk
before coming back to earth next week.

VO-NAT Astronauts Rex Walheim and Stanley
Love are making the 6-and-a-half-hour
spacewalk.
The two will spend the day
installing an observatory to monitor
the sun and another piece of equipment
for conducting experiments.
Atlantis is scheduled to land in
Florida on Wednesday.
