GRAPHIC=Police Shooting In Roanoke, a 17 year-old boy
214 was shot after being pulled over for a
traffic stop.. and it was at the hand
of Roanoke police.

yesterday morning, has left neighbors
in this Northwest Roanoke neighborhood
wanting to know what happened.
Police say an officer pulled over
a vehicle on Maryland Avenue for a
traffic stop.. .when the car stopped,
17 year-old Joshua Brown got out of his
car and took off.
That's when police started
running after him- eventually shotting
him.

Relatives told News-7 that Brown,
who lives on Clifton Street, had just
left home in his car when he was
stopped by police.
At this point, police are not
releasing the extent of his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene say he was
conscious when taken away by ambulance.

mostly sunny, but despite high and mid
level cloudiness returning during the
afternoon, highs will head toward the
60 degree mark. Westerly winds will
begin gusting to around 35mph during
the afternoon. Skies will be mostly
cloudy Friday night with lows in the
upper 20s. High pressure Saturday will
provide mostly sunny conditions,
however, we'll be much cooler. Highs
are forecast in the mid 40s and
northwesterly breezes. Clouds gather
Saturday night with lows near 30. Some
light moisture will move into the area,
and light rain or freezing rain will be
possible. As highs warm to the upper

GRAPHIC=Session 2008 It's another busy week in the
General Assembly, and News 7 is keeping
an eye on the myriad of bills they're
working on in Richmond.

A bill that sets up a commission
to study mining uranium in Virginia has
passed the Senate and is now before the
House of Delegates.
The study would take a look at
the safety and logistics of mining the
radioactive substance in Pittsylvania
County....the study would be funded by
private donors.

Driving without a license?
You're under arrest.... That'll be
the case if one bill is approved by the
House this week.
And it will require police to
take fingerprints and a photograph of
those caught.
The bill's sponsor says people
who have a valid license, but
accidentally leave it at home don't
have to worry.
The measure is now before the
Senate.

Efforts to require yellow license
plates with red letters for repeat
drunk drivers have been continued until

least another year to light up in
Virginia's restaurants....efforts to
ban it have been stomped out for this
session.

A subcommittee in the Virginia
House has effectively killed nearly a
dozen bills designed to ban smoking in
various places.
Members say the government
shouldn't be telling business owners
what to do on their own property.
They added that many restaurants
in Virginia are ALREADY smoke- free
which gives non- smokers a choice.

And finally, a bill aimed at
outlawing certain hitch ornaments on
personal vehicles has been thrown out.
Chesapeake Delegate Lionell
Spruill (Sprewuhl) introduced a bill to
ban the ornaments which he claims look
like male testicles.
The bill was assigned to the
House Transportation Committee, but the
chairman never allowed the bill to be
heard.
Yesterday Delegate Spruill
sported two Valentine's Day- inflatable
balls on the House floor to make the
point he thinks that was unfair.

Hirsbrunner in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Today starts off chilly and
mostly sunny, but despite high and mid
level cloudiness returning during the
afternoon, highs will head toward the
60 degree mark. Westerly winds will
begin gusting to around 35mph during
the afternoon. Skies will be mostly
cloudy Friday night with lows in the
upper 20s. High pressure Saturday will
provide mostly sunny conditions,
however, we'll be much cooler. Highs
are forecast in the mid 40s and
northwesterly breezes. Clouds gather
Saturday night with lows near 30. Some
light moisture will move into the area,
and light rain or freezing rain will be
possible. As highs warm to the upper
40s Sunday, rain showers are forecast
to continue. THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly
clear, calm and chilly. Low: 31
FRIDAY: Steadily increasing clouds.

seven in the shooting at Northern
Illinois University...and this latest
round of campus violence is bringing
back memories of April 16th

that 32 people were killed at Virginia
Tech.
Students told us they know exactly
what the Northern Illinois University
community is going through.

DEFINETELLY KEEPING THEM IN THEIR
PRAYERS.

GRAPHIC=Police Shooting Neighbors are asking questions
after Roanoke police were involved in
the shooting of a 17- year- old boy.

residents in this Northwest Roanoke
neighborhood wanting to know what
happened.
Police say an officer pulled over
a vehicle on Maryland Avenue for a
traffic stop.. .when the car stopped, a
teen identified as Joshua Brown got out
of his car and took off.
That's when police started
running after him- eventually shotting
him.

THE OFFICER ORDERED HIM TO GET ON THE
GROUND AND SHOW HIS HANDS. THE DRIVER
TURNED LOWERING HIS HANDS OUT OF THE

OFFICER FIRED HIS SERVICE REVOLVER ONCE
STRIKING THE INDIVIDUAL.
