and his ex-girlfriend dead this
weekend-- police are now calling it a
murder-suicide.

Brown was shot by her ex- boy friend,
27-year-old DeShawn Anderson before
taking his own life.

It happened Saturday night at her
house on the 16 hundred block of Mayo
Drive.

Many of the residents have lived
in the area for years and are surprised
by what has happened.

night at the One Stop Convenience store
in Franklin County, when a man pulled
out a firearm and shot....his uncle.

VO-NAT 39-year-old John David Hodges is

facing multiple charges including
murder and use of a firearm in
commission of a felony.

Office says Hodges shot his uncle,
Paten (Pay-Ten) Hodges, at the One Stop
Convenience store on Doe Run Road
Saturday night.

Investigators believe the
shooting happened after a fight about a
recent marriage.

Workers at the convenience store
say the Hodges came by often and they
never noticed any signs of trouble.

Center. Increasing sunshine is expected
Monday with highs in the mid and upper
50s. While pleasant, these comfortable
temperatures will occur fairly early in
the day. Westerly winds (10-20mph with
gusts near 30mph) will pull in cooler
air during the afternoon and evening
hours. Sharply colder temperatures are
forecast with mostly clear skies Monday
night. Lows are forecast around 30
degrees. With busy west winds and cool
temperatures, wind chill values near
the single digits are possible Tuesday
morning.

Midwest high pressure will provide
sunny skies Tuesday; but it will be
brisk. Highs are slated in the lower

40s. Low and mid 40s are forecast
Wednesday with partly sunny skies.
(NOTE: Occasional upslope snow showers
in West Virginia and the Alleghany
Highlands are possible Monday though
Wednesday. A few inches could result in
the most favored locations.)

Confidence is low for the late-week
forecast. Right now, it looks like a
stationary boundary will zig-zag across
the mid-Atlantic with disturbances
riding along it. This could bring rain
and snow showers to the area. Highs are
forecast near 40 - but temperatures
could be warmer - we'll have to wait
and see!

carnival stopped in Salem this weekend.

And this carnival was INDOORS -
at the Salem Civic Center.

But many of the rides are the
same.

Kids were able to take a ride on
the mechanical cars.

There were also prizes to be won
in the lucky duck race.

Even parents were joining in on
rides like this giant slide.

The carnival itself was free -
parents just had to pay for the rides.

The three day event wrapped up
yesterday.

participated in a dog obedience
competition....

They showed their skills in
everything from heeling and jumping to
retrieving objects.

sort were taking to the runway at the
Hotel Roanoke. Beautiful brides and
their handsome husbands showed off the
latest in wedding wear....

And it should come as no surprise
that the color white was quite popular.

The Hotel Roanoke played host to
a wedding gala and at just seven
dollars a ticket...not a bad turnout
either.

Models donned traditional gowns
and modern styles-- and it wasn't just
in an effort to inspire blushing
brides-- but it was all for a good
cause..

The proceeds will go to the
American Cancer Society.

4040 docket this week for the General
Assembly.

And with a slowing economy and a
revenue shortfall, things are tight all
around..

Committee's proposed budget, pinches
pennies on several of Governor Kaine's
signature proposals.

They're offering a budget that
cuts his pre-school program, and his
drivers license renewal reform.

The budget DOES fund two percent
pay raises for teachers.

expected to vote on their respective
budget proposals on Thursday.

Green Ridge Mountain fire is finally
out.

Fire officials reported yesterday
that the flames were 100 percent
contained.

There were a few hot spots they
were monitoring throughout the evening,
but with the rain they didn't
anticipate any flare-ups.

The fire broke out one week ago
and burned approximatey four thousand
acres.

influence.

into custody Saturday night after he
wrecked his car in Pulaski County.

Page was driving on Interstate 81
when he ran off the side of the road.

The 33-year-old has been charged
with DUI and was taken to the New River
Valley Regional Jail.

pennies on several of Governor Kaine's
signature proposals.

They're offering a budget that
cuts his pre-school program, and his
drivers license renewal reform.

The budget does fund two percent
pay raises for teachers.

The full House and Senate is
expected to vote on their respective
budget proposals on Thursday.
