Hillary Clinton's trying to head Barack
Obama off at the pass.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "THERE IS A

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPEECHES AND
SOLUTIONS, BETWEEN RHETORIC AND
RESULTS."

Of today's contests, the stakes are
highest in Wisconsin. In the midst of
an 8-state losing streak, Clinton has
GOT to stop the bleeding. She had been
focused on primaries in Ohio and Texas,
but polls in Wisconsin show her coming
back, and she cancelled plans to leave
the state early.

(NATSOT no font BARACK OBAMA): "IT'S

ALL TALK. HE'S NOT A DOER - HE'S A
TALKER."

Obama's busy fending off an
increasingly aggressive Clinton
campaign. For him - Wisconsin is an

important test to see if he can keep
winning the white and working-class
voters he scored in Maryland and
Virginia - groups traditionally in the
Clinton column.

(SOT BARACK OBAMA): "THERE'S SOMETHING

WRONG WHEN CEOS ARE MAKING MORE IN TEN
MINUTES THAN ORDINARY WORKERS MAKE IN
AN ENTIRE YEAR." (nat crowd roars)

(NATSOT no font MIKE HUCKABEE): "YOU

GOT A LONG WAY TO GO ON THAT
SWEETHEART."

He might have a long way to go but Mike
Huckabee insists he's not dropping out
anytime soon...and makes no apologies
for not toeing the party line.

(SOT MIKE HUCKABEE): "ELECTIONS ARE A

MESSY PROCESS."

(delegate count gfx)

Still - the republican race is all but
over....And with endorsements starting
to roll in, John McCain's making
progress in unifying the party.

(NATSOT no font JOHN MCCAIN): "I'M

PROUD TO BE IN YOUR COMPANY."

The races in Wisconsin and Washington
state are good checks on whether the
Arizona senator is gaining support
among social conservatives...and
whether that knockout blow he's been
counting on is coming anytime soon.

(oncam)

McCain will continue pushing across
Wisconsin today before hitting Ohio -
where he hopes to be celebrating.

That from Medicarefed up with having
to pay for hospital mistakes.

The government health program for the
elderly and the disabled has announced
that starting in October, it will not
pay hospitals when they commit a
handful of preventable errors, such as
accidentally leaving objects in the
body after surgery.

Medicare estimates the move could save

almost 200-million-dollars over 5
years.

U-S health officials looking into

Heparin has been linked to four deaths

Last month, officials inspected a

Turns out, it was the wrong
factory....Officials plan to visit the
correct facility later this week.

A cancer warning for the uninsured and
people covered by Medicaid....

Researchers say when diagnosed with
cancer, those Americans are far more
likely to be in the advanced stages of
the disease.

A major factor seems to be that many of
them are not getting routine screenings
that could detect the disease in its
early stages when it's most treatable.

The introduction of transparent ballot

THERE ARE MORE THAN FIFTY OR SO VOTES

Perhaps because of the fear of
violence, the turnout was low. But the
desire for change seemed high.

If Musharraf -- the man the US has

The latest shooting happened this
weekend in the parking lot of Blue Sea
Seafood Restaurant.

Police say normally a large crowd
gathers in this area after the club
across the street lets out, but on
Saturday morning, a confrontation
between two men turned deadly - one was
killed.

Starting this weekend the man who
owns the seafood place says he's
closing down before the club lets out.

Five months ago another man was
shot inside the business.

Police say he's still on life

The government health program for the

that starting in October, it will not

accidentally leaving objects in the

Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is
calling it quits.

A letter signed by him on the state
newspaper website reads --QUOTE-- "I
will

not aspire to nor accept the post of
President of the Council of State and

Commander in Chief."

Castro's exact ailment and condition is
closely guarded by the Cuban

government. Since falling ill, he has
stayed out of public view, appearing

only occasionally in photographs and
videos released by the government to

knock down rumors he was dead or
dying.

His retirement draws the curtain on a
political career that spanned the Cold

War, survived the Bay of Pigs and Cuban
Missile Crisis, and outlived the

Soviet Empire.

(SOT PAMELA FALK/CBS NEWS FOREIGN

AFFAIRS ANALYST 041205): "TO HIS
SUPPORTERS

HE'S SOMEONE WHO LEAD CUBA TO LITERACY
AND HEALTHY CARE. TO HIS CRITICS HE'S

SOMEONE WHO CLEARLY WAS A VIOLATOR OF
HUMAN RIGHTS."

The announcement effectively ends his
rule of almost 50 years over Cuba and

positions his 76-year-old brother Raul
for permanent succession to the

presidency.

(SOT FALK over pix 041315): "THIS

RESIGNATION IN A WAY IS CASTRO LEAVING
WITH

A WHIMPER, NOT A BANG. HE'S CLEARLY
BEEN ILL FOR AWHILE AND THIS IS WAY TO
-

IF THEY CAN - TRANSITION INTO THE NEXT
PERIOD OF CUBAN LEADERSHIP."

Raul Castro - the country's
long-standing defense minister - has
largely been

running the country since emergency

surgery forced his older brother to

delegate power in the summer of 2006.

This transition may set the stage for a
great transformation down the road,

but for the short-term - no matter who
takes the over in Havana now - little

change is expected from the ironcald
rule Cubans has grown used to.

Hillary Clinton's trying to head Barack
Obama off at the pass.

(SOT HILLARY CLINTON): "THERE IS A

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPEECHES AND
SOLUTIONS, BETWEEN RHETORIC AND
RESULTS."

Of today's contests, the stakes are
highest in Wisconsin. In the midst of
an 8-state losing streak, Clinton has
GOT to stop the bleeding. She had been
focused on primaries in Ohio and Texas,
but polls in Wisconsin show her coming
back, and she cancelled plans to leave
the state early.

(NATSOT no font BARACK OBAMA): "IT'S

ALL TALK. HE'S NOT A DOER - HE'S A
TALKER."

Obama's busy fending off an
increasingly aggressive Clinton
campaign. For him - Wisconsin is an
important test to see if he can keep
winning the white and working-class
voters he scored in Maryland and
Virginia - groups traditionally in the

Clinton column.

(SOT BARACK OBAMA): "THERE'S SOMETHING

WRONG WHEN CEOS ARE MAKING MORE IN TEN
MINUTES THAN ORDINARY WORKERS MAKE IN
AN ENTIRE YEAR." (nat crowd roars)

(NATSOT no font MIKE HUCKABEE): "YOU

GOT A LONG WAY TO GO ON THAT
SWEETHEART."

He might have a long way to go but Mike
Huckabee insists he's not dropping out
anytime soon...and makes no apologies
for not toeing the party line.

(SOT MIKE HUCKABEE): "ELECTIONS ARE A

MESSY PROCESS."

(delegate count gfx)

Still - the republican race is all but
over....And with endorsements starting
to roll in, John McCain's making
progress in unifying the party.

(NATSOT no font JOHN MCCAIN): "I'M

PROUD TO BE IN YOUR COMPANY."

The races in Wisconsin and Washington

state are good checks on whether the
Arizona senator is gaining support
among social conservatives...and
whether that knockout blow he's been
counting on is coming anytime soon.

(oncam)

McCain will continue pushing across
Wisconsin today before hitting Ohio -
where he hopes to be celebrating.

President Pervez Musharraf is not
on the ballot, but two of his close

political allies have already lost

The election's outcome appears to
be a stinging public verdict on
Musharraf, who is a key U.S. ally in
the war on terror.

Final results are not expected
