Getting back here was a long time in

Dan Tani had been on the International

Right now the bus-sized satellite is

The military operation is so

in Florida, NASA is basking in the glow

of another successful mission.

GRAPHIC=None A federal court trial is under way

for a Pennington Gap dentist charged
with racketeering and fraud.

Prosecutors portray Roy Silas
Shelburne as a dentist motivated by
profit margins who lived a lavish
lifestyle and performed shoddy and
unnecessary work on young, low-income
patients.

The defense contends the 52-year-old
Lee County native was devoted to
serving his low-income clients even
though Medicaid reimbursed him much
less than private insurers.

Dental assistant Phyllis Shackelford
says her ex-boss would hold a staff
meeting every morning to go over

production goals for each department.

If convicted on all counts,
Shelburne could face up to 120 years in
prison.

kmcbroom@wdbj7.com Leaders at Virginia's Explore
Park were hoping to hear about possible
plans to build a destination resort
here.

But they may have to wait a bit
longer.

That's because developer Larry
Vander Maten (VAN-der-MAY-ten) may
request an extension....

Joe Dashiell explains why.

OQ=JD News 7 Roanoke County < (END SOT) November, members of the Explore board

have been anxious to hear Vander
Maten's intentions.

But now comes word that turmoil
in the lending industry, may cause a
delay in Roanoke County.

THE DIFFICULTY IN FUNDING... THE NEW

they're not surprised by the news, and
still hopeful that Vander Maten will
move forward with his plans.

THIS WILL HAPPEN. YES I DO AND IM NOT

K.C. BRATTON/VRFA BOARD VICE CHAIRMAN:
THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD SIGNS. MR
VANDERMATEN CONTINUES TO SPEND MONEY IN
THE PARK WITH HIS EXPLORATORY EFFORTS,
AND HE HAS SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ALREADY
SO I DON'T THINK HE'S GOING TO BACK OUT
NOW., HE'S GOT A LOT ON THE LINE. 20:37

OQ= Local developer Dale Wilkinson

says the lending situation is a major
factor as members of Vander Maten's

team consider whether to request an
extension. But he adds there are other
bureaucratic obstacles as well.

The good news, Wilkinson says, is
that they continue to work on the
project every day, with the goal of
developing something everyone can be
proud of.

Early TV ratings show that the
audience for the 500 were up from a
year ago.

But NASCAR knows it still has
work to do, and it is in no way
recession- proof.
