GRAPHIC=Dowe Resigns Just days after an article in the

Roanoke Times exposed the spending
expenses of City Council Members...one
of the members has stepped down.

Alfred Dowe resigned yesterday-
effectively immediately.

The Mayor says he asked him to -
when more information about Dowe's
spending surfaced on Friday.

News 7's Joe Dashiell has
details...

Alfred Dowe has served on city
council for six years, and had two
years remaining on his term, but in a
letter to Mayor Nelson Harris, Dowe
said he was resigning, effective
immediately.

Dowe wrote, "it has been my
extreme pleasure serving the community
that I love and it is in that spirit,
given the recent events, that I choose
not to be a distraction to the progress
of the city."

Harris would not offer specifics
about the new information, but
confirmed that it involved cases of
double billing, in which Dowe sought
reimbursement from the state and the
city for the same expense.

area are dead - and police say neither
of them were wearing seatbelts.

Authorities say Ryan Patton of
Collinsville and Andrew Bourland of
Martinsville were killed in a car
accident along Carver Road in Henry
County.

They wrecked around midnight
Friday when Patton lost control of his
car and hit a tree.

The 16-year-olds were taken to
Martinsville Memorial Hospital, where
they died.

Blacksburg sending a child to the

hospital.

night.

A pickup truck rolled down a hill
and into a brick house.

Two children were in the truck.

One of them had to go to
Montgomery Regional.

Police say, the injuries don't
appear to be serious.

will quickly race through the area this
afternoon through this evening. As a CK/WEATHERPRO result, morning sunshine will give-way
to increasing clouds and a few rain or
snow showers. Some areas could possibly
get a light coating of snow from
3:00p.m. through 9:00p.m. Highs are
forecast in the low to mid 40s with
light and variable wind.

Any precipitation ends Sunday night
with clearing skies as high pressure
returns. Winds will be light and
temperatures will be chilly. Lows near
30.

Monday looks like the "pick of the
week" with mostly sunny skies (high
level clouds develop during the
afternoon) and highs in the mid and
upper 50s. Clouds once again return
Monday night, and as southwest winds
increase, temperatures will stay mild

in the lower 40s.

A cold front crosses the area Tuesday
with a 60% chance of showers. Highs are
forecast in the low and mid 50s.

Expect mostly cloudy conditions
Wednesday with snow showers in our
western mountains. The Greenbrier
Valley of West Virginia may get several
inches of fresh snow Wednesday.
Temperatures will be sharply cooler in
the 30s for most hometowns.

Thursday looks partly sunny and cool
(highs near 40). Friday calls for
mostly cloudy skies with afternoon
highs in the lower 50s.

Next weekend: Right now, the first
weekend of March calls for morning
showers on Saturday, then partly sunny
for the rest of the weekend. Highs near
50. Lows in the mid 30s.
