says United Auto Workers International
has contaced Volvo Trucks and requested

Mies says the company has
contacted the union and offered up

side has made contact with each other.
Nearly 1500 workers at the plant
in Dublin have been on strike for four
weeks now.

back in court this morning for
arraignment.

Jeffrey Dupree was charged with
involuntary manslaughter- -a couple of
days after the wreck near Tanglewood
Mall on February 16th.
His car rammed into the back of
Tracie Nininger's vehicle, killing a
highway construction worker.
At first Dupree was charged only
with driving under the influence and
refusing to take a breath test.
Though Dupree offered no
explanation in court, his lawyer told
us Dupree was injured in the accident,
and became disoriented when the air bag
went off.

Savage attacks that could signal a new
al Qaeda campaign of violence in Iraq.
A roadside bomb blew up on the
outskirts of Baghdad, killing at least
four
people and injuring a dozen more, while
the death toll continues to climb from
Sunday's brutal suicide bomb blast.
It's now risen to more than 50 dead.

The attacks took aim at Shiite
pilgrims, who have gathered by the tens
of
thousands in and around the holy city
of Karbala to mark an important
religious event.
And Monday a suicide bomber in a
WHEELCHAIR killed a top policeman and

Iraqi officials blame the string of
attacks on al Qaeda's renewed efforts
to
stoke sectarian violence.

Turkey's troops are talking tough at
the border...'We are Turkish
commandos,'
they shout, 'we are everywhere.'
They've launched several assaults
across the snowy terrain into IRAQI
territory, trying to root out Kurdish
rebels who are suspected of attacking
Turkey from hideouts along the border.
The Turkish military says it's killed
more than 100 militants since the
offensive began Thursday.
Turkey has given assurances its
incursion will be LIMITED to hunting
rebels,
but it has already sparked Kurdish
protests.
And the last thing Iraq needs now is
another battleground.

Authorities say Danville resident
Catrena Ingram was driving the wrong
direction on Lynn Street, when her
vehicle crashed head-on with a police

who struck several pedestrians at
Virginia Tech over the weekend with
more violations.

Police say four students were hit
by a car while crossing the road at the
intersection of Duckpond Drive and
Washington Street around 6:30 Saturday
night.
The group was using the
crosswalk when a driver ran into them.
Christine McNabb, a sophomore
from Manassas died at the hospital.
Daniel Budzenski, also a
sophomore, from Maryland was seriously
hurt.
Two other students were hurt, but
police say not seriously.

season and the money used to to fight
fires in Virginia has been used up.

Forestry all 500 thousand dollars which
made up the budget for the 2008 fire
season has been spent.
Mainly on the 348 wildfires that
broke out this month- many of them
right here in Southwest Virginia.

Center. High pressure builds into the
Ohio Valley Monday with increasing
sunshine and much warmer temperatures.
Highs are forecast in the mid 50s.
You'll likely notice an increase in
high level clouds Monday
afternoon/evening as a storm system
from the southern Plains gathers
moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and
moves toward us. This moisture gets
better organized and falls in the form
of rain showers Tuesday as a cold front
crosses the area. The first-half of
Tuesday appears to be the wettest.
Generally, less than 0.40" of rain is
expected.
Tuesday night calls for clearing skies
and sharply colder temperatures. Lows
tank to the mid 20s.
Variably cloudy skies are set for
Wednesday with mountain snow showers on
the western slopes of Greenbrier
County, West Virginia. Several inches
of snow are possible in that location
through Wednesday night.
Thursday is sunny and cool with highs
near 40. Friday should be dry, but with
more clouds. Highs are expected to be
warmer near 50.
Currently, the first weekend of March
calls for partly sunny skies, with a
few showers early Saturday morning.

Construction began today on a
new shopping and residential complex
will start - and this is only the
beginning.
News 7's Tim Saunders has more.

(END SOT) Moneta," you probably think of images
like this: empty storefronts, roads
with virtually no traffic.
But developer George Aznaveorian
has a different vision.
George Aznaveorian "We lost all
that growth and the momentum of what
that old village was so we thought it
would be nice to resurrect as if it
would have continued in today's times."
Aznavorian is building a new
"Downtown Moneta."
A project that mixes upscale
restaurants and shopping with
apartments and townhomes.
It's designed to be a pedestrian
friendly neighborhood where residents
can walk from their homes to the local
businesses.
Jody Lyons is helping sell and
market the project.
Jody Lyons: "People are excited
about having everything convenient
where they can just walk across the
street."
For years, most of the retail and
restaurants at Smith Mountain Lake have
been going up on the west side here in
Franklin County. But thanks to a new
sewage treatment facility on the
Bedford side, developers are looking to
the east.
"It's tough to have a company
come in to an area and say we've got to
put you on Septic. We have public
sewer and the infrastructure to support
that growth."
Drive down Route 122, and you
can't miss the construction. Several
major projects are going up in Moneta -
including a new Amphitheater on this
land near Hendrick's Store Road.
Even with all the new, some of
the old will stay.
Aznavorian is hoping to connect
his project with the original downtown
Moneta - and hopefully bring some life
back to these empty streets.
"There's a lot of history about
Moneta so we wanted to tie that
together."
It may take another two to three
years to finish the downtown.
But once it's complete,
developers are hoping to bring visitors
and residents back to what was once a
thriving stop on the way to the lake.

weather out on the west coast will
cooperate a little better today.
Rain canceled qualifying rounds
and washed out the Nationwide Series
race on Saturday.
Then yesterday, the Sprint
Cup Auto Club 500 was delayed nearly 2
and a half hours before finally kicking
off.

Casey Mears was the victim of a wet
spot on the track.
He wrecked, collecting Dale
Earnhardt, Jr.
Then Sam Hornish, Jr. turns Mears
over, and the cars caught fire.
The drivers were all o-k, but the
race was red flagged for an hour and
ten minutes.
They got in about 50 more
laps, but then Mother Nature decided to
shut things down for good.
The race is set to resume today
at 1:00.

including Best Picture.
Javier Bardem, who played the
ruthless killer in the modern- day
Western, won Best Supporting Actor.

two of the night's big winners...
Best Actor winner Daniel Day-Lewis and
Best Supporting Actress Tilda Swinton.
Both said they were caught totally by
surprise...
