rooms tonight after being on lock-down
all day long.


It was around 7:30 this morning,
when the housekeeper reported she saw a


man with a gun trying to get into
Bassett Hall.


College adminstrators responded
immediately with a siren and campus
alerts.


Hundreds of cops rolled onto
campus from around the area, searched
everywhere, but didn't find anything.

situation they were dealing
with...police didn't take any chances
when the first call came in shortly
after 7:30 this morning.

A cavalry of cops - everyone from
state police, sheriff's deputies, D-E-A
agents and US Marshal's converged on
the campus.


Police worked quickly to identify
the students and staff, move them to a
safe location and then search all 28
buildings on campus.


Even though authorities never
found a gun or gunman today...they're
still not giving up because they
believe this was a credible report.

was also on lockdown as a precaution.


Parents were unable to take their
children out of school until dismissal
at three o'clock.


But, the elementary parents
weren't the only ones concerned- Ferrum
College parents flocked to the area to
make sure THEIR children were okay.

Richmond advanced legislation designed
to keep students safe.

It passed the House of Delegates
unanimously.


Senator Mark Obenshain hopes

over, as he considers when to schedule
a special election for Roanoke City
Council.

irregular heartbeat.


Doctors treated him for it back

community can now rest assured, he will
spend the rest of his life in jail.

Washington was sentenced today to four
life terms plus 20 years.


Washington is a former meat
cutter and newspaper deliveryman who is

development in just the last 8 years.

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. A few lingering sprinkles are
possible as the front exits this
evening. As the cold air rushes in this
evening, some light snow showers are
even possible. However, the main story
will be the strong winds, and heavy
mountain snow. Strong pressure rises
behind the front will create gusty
winds tonight though Wednesday. A Wind
Advisory is in effect for areas along
the Blue Ridge (including Roanoke).
Winds in the advisory areas could reach
as highs as 50mph at times late tonight
and early Wednesday. In higher
elevations west of the Blue Ridge,
gusts as high as 60mph are possible.
Winds will begin to diminish late
Wednesday A strong fetch of cold air
and moisture off the Great Lakes will
create heavy snowfall in the higher
elevations above 3,000 feet in West
Virginia and the Mountains of Virginia.
Amounts over 6 inches may fall
throughout the day Wednesday.
Visibility will also be reduced with
blowing and drifting snow. Skies clear
some Wednesday with very windy


conditions. Temperatures will also be
considerably colder, with highs only in
the upper 30s. Thursday is sunny and
cool with highs near 40. Late Friday,
we'll increase the chance of showers. A
few may linger into early Saturday
morning. Currently, the first weekend
of March calls for partly sunny skies,
with a few showers early Saturday

Kaylin Foor - the district and
regional high jump specialist will take
her talents to Roanoke College. She
also was all regional in the hurdles.


Aimee Veatch, who specialities
are the shot put and hammer throw will
be continuing her career as a
student-athlete at Radford Univeristy
for the Highlanders.


And Tim Smith, the schools
distiance king and state cross country
champ is headed to the Univeristy of
Richmond.


Smith also won a Roy Stanley
scholarship in 2007.
