In the last ten years, the hill
city has seen a lot of growth.
Some people are concerned the
city may run out of space.
Dick Worthington: "It seems to me
we have 18 to 20 percent of our land
available for development, which is not
a lot."
Dick Worthington serves on the
city's planning commission.
He and his fellow planners
support many of the city's building
projects, but Worthington says the
public's opinion about growth is
starting to shift.
"People really don't like change
all that much. They like some of it,
but not a lot."
The city came up with a
comprehensive plan for growth back in
2002, but since then, many new
developments have gone up and even more
are proposed. And that's why city
leaders are taking a closer look at
their plans, to see if anything needs
to change.
"The plan we've been operating
under has been more of a pro-growth
plan and as such we try to follow it as
closely as we can until we get a
different view."
City council's view is more
skeptical about new projects.
Councilor Jeff Helgeson says the
city is trying to pack in too much.
Jeff Helgeson: "I think we do
need to get somewhat on the same page

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed along with meteorologist
Brent Watts in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. A few lingering sprinkles are
possible as the front exits this
evening. As the cold air rushes in this
evening, some light snow showers are
even possible. However, the main story
will be the strong winds, and heavy
mountain snow. Strong pressure rises
behind the front will create gusty
winds tonight though Wednesday. A Wind
Advisory is in effect for areas along
the Blue Ridge (including Roanoke).
Winds in the advisory areas could reach
as highs as 50mph at times late tonight
and early Wednesday. In higher
elevations west of the Blue Ridge,
gusts as high as 60mph are possible.
Winds will begin to diminish late
Wednesday A strong fetch of cold air
and moisture off the Great Lakes will
create heavy snowfall in the higher
elevations above 3,000 feet in West
Virginia and the Mountains of Virginia.
Amounts over 6 inches may fall
throughout the day Wednesday.
Visibility will also be reduced with
blowing and drifting snow. Skies clear
some Wednesday with very windy
conditions. Temperatures will also be
considerably colder, with highs only in
the upper 30s. Thursday is sunny and
cool with highs near 40. Late Friday,
we'll increase the chance of showers. A
few may linger into early Saturday
morning. Currently, the first weekend
of March calls for partly sunny skies,
with a few showers early Saturday
morning. Highs near 50. For weather
