students different ways including
knocking on doors and sending out
email and text alerts about the threat

officials got the word about the
suspicious person...they sounded the
campus siren, to begin a day of warning
and informing students.

Shortly after, campus police knock
on doors in Bassett Hall telling


students to stay inside.


By 7:54, campus officials sent out
out a text message alerting students
and faculty, saying "Possible shooting
on campus. Stay indoors. More details
to come."


A second text message is sent out
at 8:14.


It says "Ferrum College campus on
lockdown. Stay indoors."


At 8:15, nearby Ferrum Elementary
School also goes on lockdown.


Those students were released around
three in the afternoon.


But there are still questions why the
college said there was a possible
shooting...even though no shots were
fired.

crashed his cruiser while responding to
Ferrum College this morning.

at Ferrum College caused some concerns
on the Virginia Tech campus today which
understandably is sensitive to today's
events.


State Police notified Tech Police
a person was possibly, quote "on his
way" to Tech from Ferrum.


That person was eventually found,
was NOT considered a threat, and had
legitimate business at Virginia Tech.
This person was not linked to Ferrum's
investigation.


Tech Police sent out an e-mail to
faculty and students just to calm
nerves and prevent rumors.

Virginia hospital tonight, where
doctors are monitoring his heart.


The 81-year-old Republican has a


common condition that can cause an
irregular heartbeat.


Doctors treated him for it back
in the Fall, but his office says he
started experiencing it again recently.


Warner already announced that he
won't seek a sixth term in the U-S
Senate this fall.

charged with attempted capital murder,
following a confrontation last night
with Lexington Police.


Officers were investigating a
complaint of contributing to the
delinquency of a minor,

e790 when they say 24- year- old Leroy
Hobson jumped from an apartment window
carrying a rifle.


Police say Hobson dropped the
gun, picked it up, and then turned
toward the officer who was pursuing


him.


That's when the officer opened
fire.

down an embankment into a creek, but
police say he was not struck by the
officer's bullets.


He is being held without bond at
the Rockbridge Regional Jail.

Fields said a family friend
nominated him for the contest because
of his lengthy battle with breast
cancer and his response- -along with
many others at Virginia Tech on April
16-th.


Today he and his wife met the

Montgomery Regional Hospital - where
Fields frequently has to go for
treatment.

Center. A few lingering sprinkles are
possible as the front exits this
evening. As the cold air rushes in this
evening, some light snow showers are
even possible. However, the main story
will be the strong winds, and heavy
mountain snow. Strong pressure rises
behind the front will create gusty
winds tonight though Wednesday. A Wind
Advisory is in effect for areas along
the Blue Ridge (including Roanoke).
Winds in the advisory areas could reach
as highs as 50mph at times late tonight
and early Wednesday. In higher
elevations west of the Blue Ridge,
gusts as high as 60mph are possible.
Winds will begin to diminish late
Wednesday A strong fetch of cold air
and moisture off the Great Lakes will
create heavy snowfall in the higher
elevations above 3,000 feet in West
Virginia and the Mountains of Virginia.
Amounts over 6 inches may fall


throughout the day Wednesday.
Visibility will also be reduced with
blowing and drifting snow. Skies clear
some Wednesday with very windy
conditions. Temperatures will also be
considerably colder, with highs only in
the upper 30s. Thursday is sunny and
cool with highs near 40. Late Friday,
we'll increase the chance of showers. A
few may linger into early Saturday
morning. Currently, the first weekend
of March calls for partly sunny skies,
with a few showers early Saturday

ESPN the Magazine's second team
all-academic all-american team. Frazee

Virginia Tech's top player this season
Brittany Cook.


She has a three point 75 grade
point average in health, nutrition,
foods and exercise and is avergaing 18

college at the same time and even rarer
that all three are heade off to college
to play the same sport.

track and field stars signed the
appropriate papers


Kaylin Foor - the district and
regional high jump specialist will take
her talents to Roanoke College. She
also was all regional in the hurdles.


Aimee Veatch, who specialities
are the shot put and hammer throw will
be continuing her career as a
student-athlete at Radford Univeristy


for the Highlanders.


And Tim Smith, the schools
distiance king and state cross country
champ is headed to the Univeristy of
Richmond.


Smith also won a Roy Stanley
scholarship in 2007.

allowed to return to their dorm rooms,
the college remains on lockdown after a
housekeeper said she saw a man with a
gun on campus.


Despite a massive police presence
and search throughout the campus,
police did not find the man.

description of the armed man were
questioned and let go.


About 800 of the schools one thousand
students live on campus. They are
being told to stay in their dorm rooms
until further notice.
