this week at the site of the deadly
accident in Roanoke County last week.
Police say Tracie Nininger and
Jeff Dupree were drunk when they
crashed into a construction site,
killing Ricky Slone of Vinton.

We actually checked and V-Dot
says the private contractor followed
state guidelines to begin with and
therefore the same safety measures are
in place one week later.

We drove through to see for
ourselves to get an idea what those
measures were the night of the
accident.
We found there are warning signs
about a 1/2 mile before the
construction site in front of Texas
Steakhouse on Route 419.
Once you get to the second
Tanglewood Mall traffic light, there is
a lit sign telling you to get in the
left lane.
There are also cones from that
point all the way to the work crew.
Plus, all the construction
workers were wearing reflective vests.

good, Franklin County authorities are
still searching for the man that turned
Ferrum College into a sea of law
enforcement.

more about the conversation between the
housekeeper and the armed man.
Originally police said the gunman
told her "don't say anything."
Today police confirmed there was
more to it, and what he said
illustrated ill intent.

council may not get the chance.
Today, a roanoke judge ruled out a
special election to fill Dowe's
unexpired term.

a special election on May 6th, but the
Virginia code says that would be too
soon.
Another provision requires the
election to be held in the month of
May, which would have pushed the vote
to 20-09.
But no municipal elections are
scheduled then, and by May 2010 Dowe's

Center. Cold air will continue to
filter in tonight on a gusty northwest
wind (Gusts 25+ mph). Skies turn partly
cloudy with lows in the teens and 20s.
The mountains can expect more heavy,
blowing snow overnight, mainly on the
western slopes, where heavy snow
warnings are in effect until 6am
Thursday.An area of high pressure will
build in from the west Thursday. This
will help clear out the skies and calm
the winds down a bit. Highs will range
in the upper 30s to near 40. On Friday,
another front will approach the region
providing some light showers. However,
the drop in temperatures won't be all
that noticeable, with highs near 50.
Sunshine returns over the weekend, with
seasonable highs in the 50s and lows
near 30. A surge of warmer air will

A new program at the University
of California-Davis vet school is just
