replace Alfred Dowe on Roanoke City
Council.
Today , a Roanoke Judge
ruled out a special election to fill
his seat.

questions about his spending on meals,
travel and other expenses.

It now appears city council will
appoint someone to complete the final
two years of Dowe's term.

certainly a surprising conclusion to a
complicated issue.

Then another law, that requires a

would have pushed it back to May 2009.
But there was no election
scheduled in May 2009, and by May 2010

Keith Lee Dotson was arrested
last Saturday.
Bedford County sheriff's
investigators filed warrants against
Dotson, citing a dozen counts of three

going to trial anytime soon.
Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace
are serving federal sentences in other
states -- so they can't face charges
here in Virginia until they've done
their federal time.
Vick's state trial- - set for

Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Cold air will continue to
filter in tonight on a gusty northwest
wind (Gusts 25+ mph). Skies turn partly
cloudy with lows in the teens and 20s.
The mountains can expect more heavy,
blowing snow overnight, mainly on the
western slopes, where heavy snow
warnings are in effect until 6am
Thursday. An area of high pressure
will build in from the west Thursday.
This will help clear out the skies and
calm the winds down a bit. Highs will
range in the upper 30s to near 40. On
Friday, another front will approach the
region providing some light showers.
However, the drop in temperatures won't
be all that noticeable, with highs near
50. Sunshine returns over the
weekend, with seasonable highs in the
50s and lows near 30. A surge of
warmer air will arrive next Monday,
driving temperatures to around 60.

last night's win over Boston College.
The Hokies are now 8 and 6 in the ACC
and they don't play again until next
Tuesday when Wake Forest comes to town

Hokies were picked to finish 11th in
the preseason polls.
But right now they are in fourth
place and no matter what happens the
