Utility companies are still in the dark
about the minor glitch that caused a
MASSIVE problem.
(SOT MARIA DAVIS/MOTHER 233430): "THE
STREETS AREN'T SAFE - THEY HAVE NO
POWER, THERE'S NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS,
THERE'S NOTHING."
Officials blame an equipment
malfunction at this Miami substation
for sparking a power surge that shut
down 2 nuclear reactors south of the
city.
Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and
Monroe counties - all the way down to
Key West - went dark in a chain
reaction that rolled through EIGHT
other power plants up and down the
state.

Traffic got twisted, schools closed,
and office workers were stranded....It
turned out to be more of an
inconvenience than anything...even if
not everyone minded.

The shut-down of the nuclear plants
made everybody a little uneasy. But
authorities say the systems reacted
just as they should.

PLANT IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND AN EVENT

Power executives can't say what caused
the initial problem but they insist
it's not the kind of issue that should
have led to such wide-spread blackouts.
And while government officials praised

County is charged with attempted
capital murder, after a confrontation
with police in Lexington.
On Monday night, officers were
investigating a complaint of
contributing to the delinquency of a
minor,

Hobson jumped from an apartment window
carrying a rifle.
Police say Hobson dropped the
gun, picked it up, and then turned
toward the officer who was pursuing
him.
That's when the officer opened

Utility companies are still in the dark
about the minor glitch that caused a
MASSIVE problem.
(SOT MARIA DAVIS/MOTHER 233430): "THE
STREETS AREN'T SAFE - THEY HAVE NO
POWER, THERE'S NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS,
THERE'S NOTHING."
Officials blame an equipment
malfunction at this Miami substation
for sparking a power surge that shut
down 2 nuclear reactors south of the
city.
Miami Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and
Monroe counties - all the way down to
Key West - went dark in a chain
reaction that rolled through EIGHT
other power plants up and down the
state.

YOU THINK THE WORST."
Traffic got twisted, schools closed,
and office workers were stranded....It
turned out to be more of an
inconvenience than anything...even if
not everyone minded.

LOTTA LOTTA WORK."

The shut-down of the nuclear plants
made everybody a little uneasy. But
authorities say the systems reacted
just as they should.

PLANT IS DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND AN EVENT

Power executives can't say what caused
the initial problem but they insist
it's not the kind of issue that should
have led to such wide-spread blackouts.

Britain in more than two decades had
much of the country shaking this
morning.

miles north of London.
Many people across the region -
unaccustomed to earthquakes - reported
feeling their homes shaking.

the quake measured five-point-three.

when to schedule a special election for
Roanoke City Council.

the election.
