Police say the gunman shot eight
people-- including five children, who
ranged in age from 10 to 14.

GRAPHIC=none Construction crews have resumed work

at the site of that deadly accident in
Roanoke County last week.

Police say Tracie Nininger and Jeff
Dupree were drunk when they crashed
into a construction site, killing Ricky
Slone of Vinton.

We drove through the work zone this
week to see what safety measures were
in place the night of the accident.

We found there are warning signs
about a half mile before the
construction site in front of the Texas
Steakhouse on Route 419.

Once you get to the second Tanglewood
Mall traffic light, there's a lit sign
telling you to get in the left lane.

There are also cones from that point
all the way to the work crew, and all
the construction workers were wearing
reflective vests.

V-Dot tells us the prviate contractor
used these same safety measures when
the accident happened.

Alfred Dowe's seat on Roanoke city
council may not get the chance.

Yesterday, a Roanoke judge ruled
out a SPECIAL election to fill Dowe's
unexpired term.

VO-NAT Council members were anticipating

a special election on May 6th, but the
Virginia code says that would be too
soon.

Another provision requires the
election to be held in the month of
May, which would have pushed the vote
to 20-09.

But no municipal elections
are scheduled then, and by May 2010
Dowe's term would be expiring anyway.

A giant map of Africa is making
the rounds this week at Roanoke County
Elementary Schools.

The map was supplied by National
Geographic and measures 26-feet by
34-feet and weighs 102-pounds.

It essentially takes up most of
the gymnasium floor.

It will be taken to six schools,
in all, with fifth grade social studies
students taking the lessons among
others.

There are interactive activities

and games used to teach the physical
characteristics and the cultures of
Africa.

At Mountain View Elementary,
Katie Duncan used a to-scale cut-out of
the state of Virginia to illustrate the
enormidy of the continent.

repair a Bedford road that's been
closed for more than a year.

city officials to close Gold Road back
in August of 2006.

The city was hoping to get money
from the state budget to fix the road.

The funds never came through, so
city council had to raise the cash on
its own.

The bad pipe has been replaced
and the road should re-open by April.

to work at the scene of a deadly crash
last week in Roanoke County.

Driver 42 year old Tracie
Nininger is charged with involuntary
manslaughter and driving under the

Dupree is charged with involuntary
manslaugther.

Police say the two were together
before the accident.

are confirmed dead after a small plane
crashed in a neighborhood.

at the site of that deadly accident in
Roanoke County last week.

Police say Tracie Nininger and Jeff
Dupree were drunk when they crashed
into a construction site, killing Ricky
Slone of Vinton.

week to see what safety measures were
in place the night of the accident.

We found there are warning signs
about a half mile before the
construction site in front of the Texas
Steakhouse on Route 419.

Once you get to the second Tanglewood

telling you to get in the left lane.

There are also cones from that point

all the way to the work crew and all
the construction workers were wearing
reflective vests.

used these same safety measures when

Alfred Dowe's seat on Roanoke city
council may not get the chance.

Yesterday, a Roanoke judge ruled
out a SPECIAL election to fill Dowe's
unexpired term.

a special election on May 6th, but the
Virginia code says that would be too
soon.

Another provision requires the
election to be held in the month of
May, which would have pushed the vote
to 20-09.

But no municipal elections

students take a trip to Africa without
leaving school.

feet on geography lesson.

A giant map of Africa is making
the rounds this week at Roanoke County
Elementary Schools.

The map was supplied by National
Geographic and measures 26-feet by
34-feet and weighs 102-pounds.

It essentially takes up most of
the gymnasium floor.

It will be taken to six schools,
in all, with mostly fifth graders
taking the lessons.

There are interactive activities
and games used to teach the physical
characteristics and the cultures of
Africa.

At Mountain View Elementary,
Katie Duncan used a to-scale cut-out of
the state of Virginia to illustrate the
enormity of the continent.

Construction crews have returned to
work at the scene of a deadly crash
last week in Roanoke County.

Ricky Slone was killed while working
near Tanglewood Mall last Wednesday
morning.

Tracie Nininger is charged with
involuntary manslaughter and driving
under the influence.

Another driver, Jeff Dupree is
also charged with involuntary
manslaugther.

Authorities say the alleged gunman
who triggered a lockdown at Ferrum
College reportedly meant to do harm.

Originally, police said the
gunman told a housekeeper "don't say
anything."

But police say there was more to

figure out what started a fire at this
home in Lynchburg.

charged with several different sex
crimes.

Keith Lee Dotson was arrested
last Saturday.

Bedford County sheriff's
investigators filed warrants against
Dotson, citing a dozen counts of three
sex different offenses, including
sodomy.

He's being held at the Regional
Jail while he waits to arraigned.
