piece together exactly what happened,
and try to figure out what prompted the
violent confrontation.

Twelve hours after the incident,
Roanoke County police were still
investigating the scene, a stretch of
US-220 near the Franklin County line.
The pickup that police were
pursuing showed evidence of the gun
battle... so did two patrol vehicles
back at the Roanoke County Public
Safety building.
The pursuit began when an officer
tried to stop the driver for speeding,
but investigators say they don't know
why he opened fire.

suspect as 24- year-old Micah Sword, of
Roanoke County.
He was taken to the hospital with
life-threatening injuries, but police
are not releasing his condition.
One Roanoke County police officer
suffered a superficial wound to his
leg, but did not require medical

murdering a store clerk at the One Stop
Mart yesterday is also believed to be
connected to robberies at two other
Roanoke stores.

They were taken from an Advance
Auto store and from the Go Mart less
than two weeks ago.
In this recent robbery attempt,
police say Watson shot and killed

at the One Stop Mart off of Williamson
Road.. near the Civic Center.
Authorities caught him a short
time later on Westwood Boulevard.

the food mart fondly remember

suspended following the largest beef
recall in U.S. history.
According to a local food agency,
one inspector and one veterinarian have
been placed on paid administrative
leave while the investigation
continues.
The USDA recalled 143 million
pounds of beef from Westland/Hallmark
Meat Co.'s plant - in California about
two weeks ago.
The recall came after the Humane
Society released undercover video
showing workers shoving sick cows with
forklifts to get them to stand.
