the hospital tonight with life
threatening injuries after a violent
gun battle with police on Route 220.

o'clock this morning near the Franklin
County line.
Authorities say it started with a
police chase...a Roanoke County officer
tried to pull over a pickup for
speeding.
When the truck stopped abruptly
on U-S 220, the driver came out firing
his assualt rifle.

murdering a store clerk at the One Stop
Mart yesterday is also believed to be
connected to the robberies at two other
Roanoke stores.

these surveillance photos.
They were taken from an Advance
Auto store and from the Go Mart less
than two weeks ago.
In this recent robbery attempt,
police say Watson shot and killed
Jayesh Brahmbhatt (JAY-esh Bram-bott)
at the One Stop Mart off of Williamson
Road.. near the Civic Center.
He was caught a short time later
on Westwood Boulevard.
People who frequently stop by the
food mart fondly remember Brahmbhatt.

build new roads in northern Virginia.

agree it'll be tough to find a fix to
the problem before the session ends
March eighth.
The majority of the two and a
half billion dollar plan that passed

regional basketball finals night when
Friday Football Extra news overpowers
the roundball, but that's the case on
this Friday.
GRAPHIC=STEVE RAGSDALE News 7 Sports has learned that
Steve Ragsdale is stepping down after
serving the last 30 years as the head
football coach at Giles.
The southwest Virginia coaching
icon told News 7 Sports tonight that he
had been considering retiring for the
past five years. This past year he
marked two big milestones - his 30th
years in coaching and his 250th career
win.

years ago. He transitioned from the
hardwood to the football field three
decades ago and as they say - the rest
is history.
In 30 years his teams have won
254 games, three state championships
and 8 regional titles along with 13 of
the last 16 district championships.
Ragsdale will continue to teach
at the high school - but its the
lessons he's taught 100s of young been
since 1975 on the field that will
ensure his legacy.

The Bobcats would lead for most
of the game thanks in part to plays
like this Allen Dickerson with the jam
session and Radford was up 8.
But this one tighten up in the
second half, James River down 2 in the
closing seconds, Ethan Humphries with
the shot, no good, but Cory Ware gets
the rebound and the stickback, the game
is going to overtime.
In the extra session Radford's
Jon Thompson who led the Bobcats in
scoring will get the basket inside.
But James River made more plays
down the stretch, Humphries with

tonight for that regional title.
This marked the fourth time this
year that the two have met - the Titans
had won all of the previous three
meetings.

all of the southbound lanes blocked.
It happened near milemarker 124
-- that's about 12 miles south of
