sent one person to the hospital.

This Morning Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Brian
Garland along with Roanoke County
police exchanged gunfire with the
suspect.
Part of Route 220 South is still
closed as officers investigated the
shooting.
The suspect was transported to the
hospital.
We don't yet know his condition.
A release from Franklin County Sheriff
Ewell Hunt says deputy Garland's
actions appear to be appropriate and
consistent with his law enforcement
training.

We haven't heard much about it
recently..but the poison, Ricin, was
reportedly found in a motel room.

The Ricin was found inside a room
at this Las Vegas extended stay motel.

"We do know there has been unknown
access to that apartment. The
individual
who brought the item down to the
management...we are investigating his
background and we have conflicting
stories at this point."
Police won't say who lived there.
...however they 're confident this
IS not terrorism related.
Ricin can be used to treat cancer, but
in recent years, terrorists have used
it
In 2003, the Secret Service intercepted
an envelope filled with the substance
that was addressed to the White House.
It was also found in the Senate
mailroom and a postal facility in South
Carolina.
No one got sick then, and this time it
also appears the seven people taken
to the hospital are okay.

within the first 48 hours."
Still, hazmat teams quarantined and
decontaminated three hotel employees
and another person. The FBI and
Homeland Security have joined the
investigation....as they work to find
out who owned the poison and what they
intended to do with it.

night when a van she was riding in
flipped over and hit a tree.
State Police say 53 year-old
Carolyn Elaine Forrest of Bedford was
killed when the van ran off of the
road.
It rolled for about 800 feet before
hitting the tree.
The accident happened just before
11 on Route 24.
Two other people were in the car.
They were taken to the hospital, but
so far we don't know their conditions.

A truck carrying gas cylinders caught
fire during the morning rush hour.
Officials say it was carrying either
propane or oxygen tanks, when it
ignited about 300 feet from a toll
plaza.
So far, there are no reports of
anyone getting hurt.
Toll collectors were temporarily
placed in a tunnel underneath the toll
plaza for their safety.

in a two month old Bedford County
murder case.
Sheriff's Deputies say
37-year-old Brian Wesley Earnest
murdered his wife.

the move.
After being the head coach at
Glenvar High School for more than a
decade, Rick Crotts is stepping down.
Crotts told News 7 in a candid
conversation that his reason for
leaving is two- fold.

He also helped the Highlanders win a
state title after a head coaching stint

Being able to coach the
Highlanders has been a dream come true
for Crotts, who was named Head Coach
at Glenvar in April of 19-99 when
Lawerence stepped down.
