Friday Police say the gunman Micah Sword
has died.
The 24-year-old was in critical
condition all day yesterday and passed
away about 10 this morning.
Authorities say Sword led them on
a high speed chase shortly after
midnight on Friday, then out of no
where he stopped his truck, got out and
started shooting at police officers
from both Franklin and Roanoke
Counties.
All of the police officers
survived the gun battle.

including a child after a house fire in
Danville.

Flames broke out around 3:00 this
morning at 24 Noel Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, smoke
was coming through the roof.
The two adults and child managed
to escape but authorities say they had
to go to Danville Regional Medical
Center for minor injuries.

often means the same thing, but for the
folks at Hidden Valley high school the
first day of March couldn't be any more
different than the first of October was
last fall.
Mike Stevens has more on the
school's unlikely field house
dedication this afternoon.

(END SOT) Valley's new baseball and softball
facility was reduced to to a glorified
pile of kindling before they could even
put the roof on it.
But now exactly five months later
the 54 hundred square foot facility is
open for business.

Stillwell spearheaded the the
lofty effort to build the facility
without a penny of taxpayer's money.
Businesses and inviduals kicked money,
manpower and materials to make the
project a reality in time for the
current softball and baseball seasons.
But even with the building,
nothing would have been possible
without Steve Helgeson.
The former owner of the Hitting
Zone donated all of the nets, pitching
machines, pitching mounds and the
astroturf - equipment valued at more
than $50 thousand dollars.

Helgeson not only got to see his
equipment put to good use, but his
oldest son Zach - a University of
Maryland bound senior at Hidden Valley
- is in this week's Sports Illustrated
in the Face in the Crowd section.

warmer in March, hitting around 60
degrees, except Blacksburg which is a
little cooler in the lower 50s.
Blacksburg's average low is also cooler
near 30, with mid 30s in Roanoke,
Lynchburg and Danville.

4-inches of moisture, with Danville
leading the pack with 4.25". Average
snow really begins to fall off.
