A tractor trailer wreck on
Interstate 81 in Montgomery county has
all of the southbound lanes blocked.

Last Night The accident occurred last night
at around 11:00 near milemarker 124 --
that's about 12 miles south of Salem.

All traffic is being diverted off
at exit 132 -- no word on when the
accident will be cleared up, but V-Dot
says drivers should expect delays.

No other information is available
at this time.

the hospital after a wild shootout with
police on Route 220.

It happened just before one
o'clock Friday morning on a stretch of
US-220 near the Franklin County line.

The pickup that police were
pursuing showed evidence of the gun
battle... so did two patrol vehicles
back at the Roanoke County Public
Safety building.

The pursuit began when an officer
tried to stop the driver for speeding,
but investigators say they don't know
why he opened fire.

He was taken to the hospital with

man they're accusing of murder.

27- year old Demetrius Jennings
-- seen here -- is charged with the
murder of 49-year-old Reginald
Fitzgerald.

Jennings turned himself in to
police last night.

found Reginald Fitzgerald on the 200
block of Poplar Street with injuries to
his head and stomach.

He later died at the hospital.

murdering a store clerk at the One Stop
Mart on Thursday is also believed to be
connected to the robberies at two other
Roanoke stores.

VO-NAT Police say Calvin Watson matches

the description of the man seen in
these surveillance photos.

They were taken from an Advance
Auto store and from the Go Mart less
than two weeks ago.

In this recent robbery attempt,
police say Watson shot and killed
Jayesh Brahmbhatt (JAY-esh Bram-bott)
at the One Stop Mart off of Williamson
Road.. near the Civic Center.

He was caught a short time later
on Westwood Boulevard.

People who frequently stop by the
food mart fondly remember Brahmbhatt
(BRAM-BOTT)

coach is retiring. Steve Ragsdale
is stepping down after serving the last
30 years as the head football coach at
Giles.

The southwest Virginia coaching
icon told News 7 Sports that he had
been considering retiring for the past
five years.

Friday Football Extra Ragsdale will be 57 in May and he :00 began coaching basketball at Giles 33
years ago.

He transitioned from the hardwood
to the football field three decades
ago.

Ragsdale will continue to teach
at the high school.

Interstate 81 in Montgomery county has
all of the southbound lanes blocked.

milemarker 124 -- that's about 12 miles
south of Salem.

All traffic is being diverted off
at exit 132 -- no word on when the

accident is being released at this

the hospital with life threatening
injuries after a violent gun battle
with police on Route 220.

o'clock yesterday morning near the
Franklin County line.

Authorities say it started with a
police chase...a Roanoke County officer
tried to pull over a pickup for
speeding.

When the truck stopped abruptly
on U-S 220, the driver came out firing
his assault rifle.

Authorities caught him a short
time later on Westwood Boulevard.

in a room at an Extended Stay motel two

LIKE THIS ONE TO EVICT THE HOSPITALIZED
RESIDENT AND THEY MADE A DISTURBING
DISCOVERY THAT SET OFF RED FLAGS FOR
LOCAL AND FEDERAL AUTHORTIIES.

Capt. Joe Lombardo: they discovered
some firearms within the room. metro
police was called to the room they did
a search of the room to recover the
firearms and subsequently they found an
ancharist type text book and it was
tabbed ot the subject of ricin.

POLICE SAY ON TUESDAY THEY FOUND NO
SIGN OF THE DEADLY TOXIN, THAT WOULD
CHANGE THURSDAY WHEN AN ACQUAINTANCE OF
THE RESIDENTS WOULD TURN OVER A
SUSPICIOUS SUBSTANCE HE SAYS HE FOUND
IN THE ROOM. IT WAS THE BIOLOGICAL
AGENT RICIN. THAT INDIVIDUAL ALSO
STAYED AT THE EXCALIBUR WEDNESDAY
NIGHT. AND JUST HOURS AGO HAZMAT TEAMS
SUITED UP AND HEADED THERE LOOKING FOR
ANYTHING ALARMING.

Lombardo: as a precautionary measure
the armor team responded to the
excalibur and determined there was no

contamination within the room at the
excalibur.

THE FRIEND HAS ONLY BEEN IDENTIFIED AS
A 53 YEAR OLD MAN. NO OTHER DETAIL HAS
BEEN RELEASED ABOUT THE MAN SUFFERING
THE EFFECTS OF RICIN EXPOSURE OR WHY HE
WOULD EVEN HAVE THE KILLER CHEMICAL IN

headquartered in Concord.

This shipment includes soup

that's- -high in nutrients- -for the
people of Guatemala.

The truck heads for the coast,
then proceeds to Central America by
boat. It'll take a couple of months to
reach its destination, where children
live off scraps savaged from the
landfill.

The President of this
organization is well aware how hard it
is to make a dent in world hunger.

decided to go on strike this week.

It was part of a Labor Relations
Class.

The students held a mock election
to learn about collective bargaining
and how unions work.

They were each given a side,
either management or steeleworkers.

The students then had to stand
outside and convince people walking by
to vote their way.
