murder-suicide.

trial this week for shooting two people
nearly two years ago.

security guard and deputy while on the
run.
Judge Ray Grubbs tried to seat a
jury in Montgomery County last year,
but decided to move the case to
Abingdon.

Blacksburg and it's been a major
undertaking to plan for the move.
Washington County Sheriff Fred
Newman says he's had several meetings
with authorities in Montgomery County
to prepare.

when an archway at Randolph Macon
College in Ashland collapsed.

Authorities aren't identifying
the person though they say the victim
did not suffer life-threatening
injuries.
The fire chief in Hanover County
confirmed the archway collapsed over an
entrance to the one-story Starr
Residence Hall.
According to the school's
website, Starr Residence Hall was built
in 1967 and houses nearly 60 students.

worker Ricky Slone on Route 419 in
Roanoke County still has viewers
talking. The two drivers have been
charged with involuntary manslaughter
and are suspected of driving drunk.
A viewer from Elliston wrote: "They
need to sit in jail for a long time to
contemplate the gravity of their
actions. Saying they are sorry will not
bring back the worker. Their family
will suffer the rest of their lives."
Our extensive coverage of the scare and
lockdown on the Ferrum College campus
garnered a few comments. This one came
from the parent of a Ferrum student:
"I was at work when I heard Breaking
News Update, Ferrum College on
Lockdown, my heart literally fell and
my eyes swelled with tears
automatically thinking the worst has
happened to our son. You handled
yourselves and the news with the
highest of concern of parents and loved
ones involved with a Ferrum student or
family member."

won't be as cold as last night. Lows
are forecast in the mid and upper 30s.
Monday calls for sunny skies - just a
few high clouds during the afternoon. A
return flow of wind on the backside of
high pressure will pump warm
temperatures into the area. Highs near
70. Wind may gust from the south around
25-30mph.
Clouds quickly gather Monday evening
and Monday night ahead of an
approaching storm system coming out of
the southern Plains. Temperatures will
be very mid Monday night; in the lower
50s.
Tuesday is the "day to watch" this
week. As the front crosses the area,
expect rain and thunderstorms. The
highest rain chances will be in the
afternoon and evening hours. At this
point, here are the items of concern:
+ Heavy downpours. Some locations may
get over 1.00"
+ Gusty wind. Storms could produce
damaging wind
+ Timing. Late afternoon/evening looks
to be the time to watch
Strong storms to the southeast of our
region could limit/rob moisture from
our area. Something else that we will
have to watch.
The system pulls away Tuesday night.
The rest of the week will feature
cooler temperatures and partly sunny
skies.

Cup drivers this week who raced in
California Monday afternoon and then
made the short trip to Las Vegas for
today's UAW-Dodge 400.

suffering a badly bruised foot.
Jeff Gordon wasn't around for the
finish either. With just 5 laps to go,
Gordon clipped Matt Kenseth. Both the
24 and the 17 went on a spin o rama and

of a record 11 cautions on the
afternoon.
Carl Edwards was out front
when it counted thanks to not being
penalized in the pits after a cameraman
prevented his crew from corraling a
loose tire. Edwards went to victory
lane for the second time in a week.

had huge ACC and NCAA implications for
each team.

women's champions at the Salem Civic
Center where Virginia Wesleyan tried to
keep Guilford from winning its 16th
consecutive game this season.

first though from behind the arc as
Tyler Fantin finds the range on the
three ball from the corner pocket.
But big Ben Strong certainly
lived up to his last name today.
Strong scored the first 8 points for
Guilford and finished with 28 on the

Quakers quickly built a double digit
lead.

side this weekend, but the women's
bracket had plenty, including one today
in the finals as number 6 Bridgewater
took out the top seed Virginia
Wesleyan.

Cassell Coliseum against Wake Forest,
trying to get out of the ACC cellar
with the league tournament on tap this
coming weekend.

Brittany Cook carried the Hokies
as she has all year, getting in the

act as she stops and pops the short
jumper on the baseline as the Hokies
opened up a 10 point second half lead.
Then it's more Cook--getting to
the rim for 2 more.
*CG final Wake Forest Tech won it over Wake Forest by a
56 final of 61 to 56. The women will open
Virginia Tech play in the ACC Tournament on Thursday
61 in Greensboro against Boston College.

decided to step out of the box to raise
money for it's athletic program.
The game had four teams including
police officers from the community.
It's all the rules of basketball,
you're just riding a donkey.
The animals had to wear special
shoes so they wouldn't damage the gym
floor.
