We got our first dose of rain in the
afternoon.
This was scene on Williamson Road in
Roanoke around 3:30.

It didn't take long for streets to
flood and for drains to be overwhelmed.
But the storm only lasted a few
minutes. The worst actually happened
near Big Stone Gap.
Take a look at these pictures of
downed trees all over the roads. One
hit a home, damaging the roof and
several mobile homes were destroyed.

The weather picked up again by
nightfall. Around 8:30, downtown
Blacksburg was hit hard with strong
winds and heavy rain.
The storm didn't last long and caused
practically no damage.

Other areas weren't so lucky.
In Campbell County, two large pine
trees fell down on Route 662 in Lynch
Station.
Reports from Pittsylvania County show
a porch blew off a mobile home.
In Carroll County, wind gusts topped
nearly 60 miles a hour causing a number
of trees to fall down in Pulaski
County.
We're told a metal building blew down
near Route 8 in Patrick County and
downed trees could be seen all over
parts of Floyd Co, as well as on Route
220 near Rocky Mount.>>

And in Texas, nearly one in three
primary voters was Hispanic...a group
that tends to support Clinton. In
recent weeks, Obama has worked very
hard
to win over that voting block.

Hillary Clinton says she's staying in
the race - so the attacks are likely to
continue... but tonight Sen. John
McCain was coronated as the Republican
nominee for president .
He sealed the nomination with a clean
sweep of all four primaries. President
Bush will endorse him Wednesday.

capital murder trial in Abingdon is
over -- and several potential jurors
were picked...
Morva's accused of killing a
Montgomery County deputy and a hospital
security guard in 2006.

selected today.
Out of a pool of more than 60
people in Washington County, only one
person had a connection to the case.
The trial was moved to Abingdon
because too many people in Montgomery
County had close ties to the case.
Today, most of the potential
jurors did not know Morva, or the
victims -- Eric Sutphin and Derrick
McFarland, their family or friends.

fire on police served the
country...just one thing we learned
today.....

Force for six years.
He completed two combat tours in
Iraq.
The 24-year-old worked at the
Post Office in Salem on West Main
Street.
According to an obituary
published by the Roanoke Times, he
leaves behind a wife and 14 month old
son.

Governor Tim Kaine today vetoed a
bill that would have allowed Virginians
with concealed carry permits to carry
their guns into restaurants and clubs.
Kaine says mixing guns and
alcohol is a public safety issue.
Virginians are currently allowed
to carry a gun into a restaurant
openly... that is in plain view... on
their hip.
Concealed guns aren't allowed.
Kaine also vetoed a second bill
that would have allowed people without
a concealed carry permit to lock up
their gun in the glovebox of their
vehicle.
Law enforcement officials were
opposed to both bills.

night on suspicion of driving under the
influence.
Judge Keith Blankenship was the
Commonwealth's Attorney in Wythe County
until he was named to the bench three

rock quarry in the Evington section of
Campbell County had a chance to learn
more about the project.

Dozens packed the Evington
Ruritan Club for a public information
session.
The event was hosted by Boxley
aggregates - the company that wants to
build the quarry.
They answered questions about
everything from dust to traffic.
Neighbors say they appreciate the
information, but they don't want a
quarry in their backyard.

Center. The final line of strong
storms is coming out of far SW Virginia
and into the NRV. Look for damaging
winds (excess of 65mph) along with
flooding downpours. Several roads have
been flooded in Smyth and Tazewell
counties. There have also been reports
of buildings damaged and trees downed
due to straight-line winds in
Hillsville. This is the same line of
storms that is moving to the north into

the Dean Dome by North Carolina.

opened tonight with the quartefinals
being played on the home courts of the
high seeds before the event shifts to
the Justice Center at UNC-Asheville.
One of those games tonight was at
the Vines Center in Lynchburg as the
Liberty Flames played host to the VMI
Keydets.

so they were out for a litttle revenge
this evening.
VMI comes out running and Chavis
Holmes will drive down the floor in
transition and find Adam Lonon - makes

former Hokie dell Curry was named the
Southern Conference player of the year
today. The six-three sophomore guard
is avergaing 25 points a game this
season for the Davidson Wildcats.
He is in the top 10 in a number
of national statistics - fifth in
scoring, 8th in free throw percentage
and third in three pointers made.
Last year he was the league's
freshman of the year and Tournament
MVP.

quarterfinals are coming up later this
week.
The doubleheader that was
scheduled to be played at Northside
high school this Saturday night
featuring both the boys and girls teams
from Hidden Valley

The Northside gym is the biggest
high school gymnasium in the valley
with a 2300 hundred fan capacity.
During last Friday night's
regional doubleheader about 2000 fans
attended the games.
The VHSL was concerned that some
fans might be turned away if the gym
filled up early, so now here's the plan
for the Group Two A quarterfinals.

The Hidden Valley boys will host
R.E.Lee Robert E. Lee at 7pm on Friday night.
And then on Saturday night at 6pm

announced today that he finally ready
to walk away from the game he loves so
much after 17 seasons.

Favre is now 38 years old, and he
is coming off one of the best seasons
of his career. He retires with over 61
thousand passing yards and 442
touchdowns - both records.
Favre is the one quarterback the
average fan could always relate to and
a lot of that had to do with his work
ethic. He finished his career on a
streak of 253 consecutive regular
season starts -- 275 including playoff
games.
