To that end, a consumer education
event was held yesterday at the main

Several agencies handled
questions from the public.
It's said that education is the
first line of defense for consumers to

Commission offers this advice.
Before making any financial
decision, be sure to understand the
rates, fees and other terms.
It pays to shop around and not
settle for the first offer available to
you.
When you make a transaction, be
sure to get the terms in writing.
It sounds cliche, but it could
protect you in the end.
And also, check your credit.
If there's something incorrect,
you need to know.
The information in your credit

To that end, a consumer education
event was held yesterday at the main
post office in Roanoke.
Several agencies handled
questions from the public.
It's said that education is the
first line of defense for consumers to
manage their money wisely and protect
themselves against frauds or rip-offs.
And one of the best ways to
protect yourself is to fully check out
an offer and consult with others before
you commit to it.

Commission offers this advice.
Before making any financial
decision, be sure to understand the
rates, fees and other terms.
It pays to shop around and not
settle for the first offer available to
you.
When you make a transaction, be
sure to get the terms in writing.
It sounds cliche, but it could
protect you in the end.
And also, check your credit.
If there's something incorrect,
you need to know.
The information in your credit
report can make a difference when you
apply for credit, insurance, or a loan.

You certainly want to deal with
companies and individuals that you know
and trust.
If you have any question about a
financial transaction, contact the SCC
ahead of time to see the person you're
dealing with is authorized to do
business in Virginia.
Read the fine print, ask
questions, and don't allow yourself to
be rushed.

Police have locked down part of Times
Square after a small explosion rattled
the neighborhood in the early morning
hours.
Authorities are looking into reports
that just before 4 A-M, a man on a bike
tossed a small explosive device at the
military recruiting station at 43rd
street and Broadway. It blew out the
front window and the suspect fled. No
injuries were reported.
The blast may have been small but it
sent tourists in high-rise hotel rooms
scrambling to see what happened.
(SOT TOURIST)
(SOT TOURIST)
Police are still sweeping the area for
any possible second device and the
immediate area remains cordoned off and
traffic diverted.....but officials
hope to re-open it for the morning
rush.
The target looks to be the military
recuiting office but authorities had no
comment on any possible motive....only
saying the investigation is underway
