pressure tracking across the region
will keep the NEWS7 viewing area cloudy
and damp Friday night through Saturday
morning. Tonight, expect steady
temperatures near 40, light wind,
considerable clouds, periods of rain
and areas of patchy fog. When will the
clouds break? Looks like we'll slowly
turn partly sunny Saturday afternoon as
our current storm system pulls to the
northeast. Saturday will become breezy
with westerly winds gusting to around
45mph. Temperatures should top out near

50 early, then fall back into the 40s
during the afternoon. Bundle up!
Saturday night features clear skies
with lows in the mid 20s! Since
overnight lows will be chilly and west
winds will continue to blow, wind chill
values are expected in the single
digits! Sunday calls for sunshine and
highs near 50. Winds won't be as
strong. Long-range outlook: Monday
through Thursday call for partly sunny
skies. The week will start off with
highs close to 50, but we should be
closer to 60 by the middle/end of the
week. Looks like more rain from the
south around Friday. Stay tuned!
Remember to turn your clocks FORWARD

mstevens@wdbj7.com We begin tonight with state
quarterfinal basketball on the high
school front.

This is the time of year when you
win and move - lose and you go home.

Tonight the only the unbeaten
team in the area - the G.W. Danville
boys played Petersburg in the Group
Three A elite eight.

Petersburg vs. G.W. Danville This one was played at Averett
University in Danville and the GW
cheerleaders were hoping to lead the
way to Richmond.

The Nick Barbour, the Eagles
talented guard will take the nice pass
and knock in the long jumper for three
points.

Travis Tarpley the point guard
will then bring the ball down court and
makes the pass to set up another three
ball.

Tarpley gets the steal and makes
the behind the back pass to lead to
another layup *CG final Petersburg

65 But big Nathaniel Taylor would G.W. Danville help the Wave dominate the paint as 59 Petersburg upsets Danville tonight
65-to-59 and ends GW's season.

mstevens@wdbj7.com There was literally a clash of
the Titans tonight in the boys' Group
Two A state quarterfinals as the Hidden
Valley Titans took on the winningest
coach in the history of high school

basketball in the Commonwealth - Paul
Hatcher and his Fighting Leemen from
Robert E. Lee.

CHANNEL=B VO-NAT
VO-NAT

*CG locator Roanoke Co.

Hidden Valley vs. R.E. Lee The Leemen used to travel from
Staunton to Roanoke all the time back
in the 70s when they played as a Triple
A member in the Roanoke Valley
district.

But they never pulled out the
stops like they did tonight by slowing
the tempo considerably and - of all
things - playing a lot of zone defense
in the first half.

As a result the possessions were
precious. The Titans get a rare chance
to run and the big fellow Logan
Singleton fills the lane nicely and
drop in the fingeroll. Titans led 10
to 9 after the first.

It stayed tight in the second.
But Chad Earhart will get the steal out
front and take it strong to the hoop on
the drive as the Titans led by a point
- 16-to-15 at the break.

Hatcher's Leemen were their own

worst enemy committing 21 turnovers.

Still the game was far from over.
Ben Boggs fouled out with over four
minutes to play and then with just 47
seconds left in the game Daryl Hart
hits Lee's only three pointer of the
game to cut the Hidden Valley lead to
33 to 32. *CG final Hidden Valley

38 But the Titans would not be Robert E. Lee denied. Will Anderson gets the assist 34 to Luke Hancock on the fast break and GROUP AA QUARTERFINALS Hidden Valley earns its second straight
trip to Richmond and the final four
with a 38-to-34 win over Lee.

mstevens@wdbj7.com On the Group A court tonight -
one game was a blowout the other was
tight. In division two - George Wythe
hammered Castlewood 100-to-68.

While in division one Eastern
Montgomery and Twin Valley battled in

their elite 8 game in Christiansburg.

CHANNEL=C VO-NAT

Twin Valley vs. Eastern Mont. The state tourney is a new :00 experience for East Mont - and give the
Mustangs' fans credit as they turned
out in full force tonight to see if
they would advance to the final four.

The defense dares Jeremy Smith to
shoot from three feet behind the arc -
and Mr. Smith will knick one in from
way out in the land normally reserved
for J.J. Redick.

Then look at the East Mont
passing off of the inbounds play as
Henry Hall benefitsfrom the ball not
once touching the floor as he scores
inside.

More sharp passing as Demetrius
Murphy finds Laquin Khahil. *CG final Twin Valley

69 But despite all of that Twin Eastern Montgomery Valley would have too much inside 62 muscle as they end East Mont's state
run with a 69-to-62 win.
