<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. Showers and a few

thunderstorms are possible as a strong
cold front sweeps across the region.
There's a slight risk of strong to
severe storms, with the biggest threat
being heavy rain and gusty winds. Most
of us should remain "storm-free", but
keep an eye to the sky. Temperatures
should remain steady in the mid 60s
with south winds 15-20mph. Some gusts
could exceed 30mph, especially in an
any storm which may develop.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Any storms end as the
front moves eastward. Showers will
continue with slow clearing by dawn.
Overnight lows will drop to near 40.
Behind the front, westerly breezes will
increase, gusting to around 40-50mph at
times in the higher elevations.
THURSDAY: Sunny and breezy. Winds will
relax by the end of the day, but most
of Wednesday will be highlighted by
northwesterly winds at 15-25mph with
gusts near 50mph. Afternoon highs are
forecast near 60. Thursday night will
be clear and chilly with lows in the
lower 30s. FRIDAY: The first full day
of spring will feature mostly sunny
with highs in the low and mid 60s.
Winds will be light from the southwest.

YOUR WEEKEND OUTLOOK: Saturday will
likely feature more clouds than
sunshine. Models are hinting at a
20-30% chance of a few light showers;
but most of the day we'll stay dry.
Highs are expected in the lower 60s.
Easter Sunday should bring no
weather-worries with mainly sunny
conditions; but it will be cooler in
the lower 50s! For weather anytime

Things are certainly looking up for the

in southwest Virginia seem to be
getting stronger. Bill Whitaker with
Vinton Roofing has been running

replacing missing shingles. Most from
older roofs that couldn't stand the
brunt of nearly tropical storm force
winds.

Winds have increased so much lately,
parts of Virginia and North Carolina
have now been considered High Wind
Catastrophe Areas.

This is important when you're
putting on a new roof. Most insurance
companies no longer cover the old 20-yr
shingle that only had a 48 mph wind
rating. And their reconsidering the
25-year 3-tab shingle that has a 60mph
wind rating. This is why many
homeowners are putting on the new
architectual shingles which are built
to last. Their wind rating? 110mph>>

WEATHERPRO SOURCE Of course getting the better
shingles will cost you. Architectural
shingles cost about 25 to 35 dollars
more per square than the 3-tab
shingles. But it may save you money in
the long run.

The longer you wait to have your
roof repaired the better chance you'll
have leeks.

If you have damage, before you
call your homeowner's insurance agent,
call the roofing company FIRST.

The insurance company will likely
want an estimate, and by getting on the
waiting list you'll get the work done
sooner.
