bgrebe@wdbj7.com Barack Obama is ending a rough
week with a big boost on the campaign
trail. He picks up the endorsement of
one of his former competitors for the
Democratic Nomination.
As Tara Mergener tells us.. it comes
as the State Department investigates
'why' three contract workers took an
unauthorized look at Obama's passport
file.

(END SOT) Was it curiosity -- or a political
maneuver? That's what the State
Department
and Barack Obama want to know -- after
discovering contractors took looks at
the presidential candidate's passport
file. Two were fired. A third
suspended.
It's not clear if the workers saw
anything other than Obama's basic
personal
information -- like his name,
citizenship, age, and place of birth.
A top State Department official will
brief Obama's Senate staff directly,
later today. A spokesman for the
agency says, it appears to be nothing
more
than curiosity -- but an investigation
is underway to make sure.
(NAT - obama rally)
On the campaign trail: the candidate is
getting a big boost from a former
competitor. New Mexico governor Bill
Richardson will endorse Obama.
(STANDUP BRIDGE: TARA MERGENER / CBS
NEWS / THE WHITE HOUSE) - "That could
give the Illinois senator more support
among Hispanic voters -- a group
that's been voting in big numbers for
Hillary Clinton. Political analysts
say -- Richardson's endorsement could
also pay dividends down the road."
(SOT: JOE TRIPPI / CBS NEWS POLITICAL
ANALYST) - "HE'S A SUPERDELEGATE
HIMSELF, AND HE MAY HELP OPEN THE DOOR
FOR OTHER SUPERDELEGATES TO START
MOVING TO OBAMA."
Richardson backed Obama -- despite the
his strong ties to the Clinton
family... he served in Bill Clinton's
administration. In an e-mail to his
supporters, he praised Hillary Clinton
as a distinguished leader... But, he
went on to say -- Obama is the
candidate best able to bring the
country
together -- and, bring about change.

The town of Pacific, Missouri looks
more like the Pacific Ocean today.
Volunteers and emergency crews are
frantically putting up sandbags to slow
the water which is up to the windows of
many homes.
Residents are waiting for the crest,
which should come this weekend but it
will still be a while before evacuees
can get back into their homes.
The flooding is the result of heavy
rain that dumped over a foot of water
on some areas last weekend.

Thousands of Christians from all
over the world crowded the stone
alleyways of Jerusalem's Old City to
mark Good Friday, retracing the route
Jesus took to his crucifixion.
Police said thousands of security
personnel were deployed around
Jerusalem because of Good Friday and
the Jewish festival of Purim (POOR-IM),
which also falls this weekend.
Police are also on high alert
because of fears of a revenge attack
for the February assassination of a
high-ranking commander in the Lebanese
militant group Hezbollah.

Forecast Center. Spring Has Sprung!
Especially today as temperatures warm
back up. High pressure will move off
the east coast today, this will pull in
some warmer weather from the south,
bringing highs back into the low to mid
60s with mostly sunny skies. THIS
WEEKEND: On Saturday, a disturbance
coming in from the northwest will offer
clouds than sun, and a slight shower
chance (20%). This means most areas
will remain dry, with highs in the
mid-60s. Cooler air will build in
Easter Sunday, with afternoon highs in
the low 50s. Sunrise is at 7:18am, and
we should keep mainly sunny skies with
us through most of the day for those
egg hunts. Get the latest weather
forecast and radar imagery anytime on
