-- the state is offering families of
the 32 people killed at Virginia Tech
100-thousand dollars each.
That's according to a relative
one of the victims.
The families have already
recieved money from the Hokie Spirit
Memorial Fund.
Immediately following April
16th... donations began pouring into
the school from across the country.
Last October, that money --
nearly seven million dollars -- was
electronically transferred or delivered
to the victims' families.

than two dozen vehicles were broken
into over the weekend.

Thomas Clyde Turpin of Pulaski.
He's charged with three felony
charges related to these weekend
break-ins.

Ridge Mountain fire last month.

of trees and brush.
It took firefighters about a week to
get the fire out.
Most of the costs,

County. something residents of the Clover
(END SOT) community are getting used to - but
they're not happy about it.
"It's hurting all of us, you
know, right along this road."
The Route 92 bridge, connecting
Clover with Route 360 is closed,
creating an 10 mile detour for people
like Jennifer Nichols.
"It's been a tremendous
inconvenience."
Nichols gets around in a
wheelchair - she says not having the
bridge is slowing her down.
Jennifer Nichols: "You have to
rearrange your schedule in order to
make sure you're at school on time or,
for other people, at work on time."
The bridge was built in 1930 and
you can't miss the signs of aging.
It's so bad, the Virginia
Department of Transportation is
thinking about abandoning the bridge.
On an average day, less than 500
cars and trucks would be passing over
this bridge. And V-DOT says that's not
enough traffic to justify the money it
would take, to build a new bridge."
Paula Jones: "There are a lot of
factors that are not monetary that we
need to look at that's how does this
affect the community?"
Nichols has a petition to save
the bridge with nearly 500 signatures -
many from people who say closing the
bridge would be a safety hazard.
Jennifer Nichols: "If there was a
fire east of 600 then we'd be trapped
and that's a major point for me."
V-DOT says they're taking
concerns like that seriously.
Meanwhile, residents are getting
used to the new traffic pattern.
"I'd like to see it open, you
know, but if it don't, it don't."
Still many are holding out hope -
the detour won't be permanent.
