killed four Americans and pushed the
number of U-S troops killed in Iraq to
at least 4-thousand- and more than 100
from Virginia.
In statistics compiled by the
Associated Press, 114 of those
servicemen and women killed since the
war started were from Virginia-- 16 of
them from our area.
As Tara Mergener reports the White
House calls it a sober moment.

(END SOT) The five year war in Iraq has now
claimed 4000 American lives.
The sobering milestone was reached over
the weekend...when four U-S troops
were killed by a roadside bomb.
Dana Perino/While House Press Secretary
President Bush thinks that every single
loss is tragic, from the very first
several years ago to the ones that
sacrificed yesterday.
Insurgents have recently stepped up
attacks on the U-S protected Green Zone
and on civilians across the country.
More than 60 Iraqis were killed in
various incidents on Sunday and a new
report says 90,000 have died since the
conflict began.
Tara Mergener Bridge/White House:
President Bush spent part of his day on
a 2-hour conference call with General
David Petraeus, the U-S commander in
Iraq and Ambassador Ryan Crocker.
Both men are scheduled to testify next
month on Capitol Hill where Petraeus
is expected to recommend no
additional troop reductions in Iraq
beyond
those already scheduled.
Perino again
Of course the President of the United
States wants the troops to come home,
but he's going to do that when
conditions are right.
The President's troop surge last year
lowered violence in the Baghdad
area....and there is concern pulling
too many troops out could erase the
gains
made. But critics say that has to be
balanced with the rising death toll and
American public opinion that remains

school filed a police report.

destroyed their home.

It won't last long. With an upper low
moving overhead, a few
sprinkles/flurries are possible
tonight. Skies eventually turn clear
late with chilly lows in the 20s and a
westerly wind at 15mph. Tuesday, high
pressure to our south begins delivering
a southwest breeze with afternoon highs
climbing back to around 60. Expect only
a few passing clouds. Wednesday and
Thursday will be more Spring-like, with

being the best golfer in the history of
the sport.
Woods had won the last 7 times he
had teed it up competitively but he
faced a tall order this morning.

TGC They had to wrap up the Delayed
World Golf C-A Championship down in
Florida.
Tiger started the day 5 shots off
the lead with only 7 holes to play, he
would get to 15 under par, but that
would be good for only 5th place, his
win streak coming to an end.
Geoff Ogilvy was the leader
overnight and came out with all pars to
finish out the 72 Hole tournament and
claim the victory at 17 under par, good
for a 1 stroke win over 3 golfers.

A man in Italy who apparently
hypnotizes bank clerks and cashiers and
then makes off with cash.
Here he is in action- one bank
teller said he leaned over and told her
"look into my eyes." The next thing she
remembers was an empty till.
And a supermarket cashier asked to
change a 100 dollar Euro note- about
157 dollars.. apparently handed over
more than 12- hundred dollars.
Police say they think the hypnotist
has a female accomplice.

man get around have had a pretty tall
order.

That is because Leonid Stadnyk
(STAD-NIK) is the world's tallest man.
At eight foot, five inches, Stadnyk
was forced to quit his job as a
veterinarian when he got too big for
his bicycle.
He tried walking to work, but his
feet were frostbitten because he can't
afford shoes to fit his feet.
After hearing his story, someone
recently presented him with a giant
bicycle.
Leonid's growth spurt started at age
14 after a brain operation apparently
overstimulated growth hormones. Doctors
say that he will keep growing.
