The rivers are mainly receding in the
Mid-West but all that water's gotta go
somewhere.
It's pouring downstream and now the
danger looks highest in eastern
Arkansas.
Officials there warn the swelling White
River could cause historic flooding in
cities along its path.
(nats)
Arkansas hasn't been spared. State
officials estimate there's already been
2-million-dollars worth of damage done
and it's not over yet.
Some rivers have hit their highest
levels in more than 90 years and they
likely won't be dropping till the
middle of this week.
(Gwen Belton/Stand-up/Eureka, Mo.)
WHILE MANY ARKANSAS RESIDENTS WATCH AND
WAIT, THE PEOPLE HARDEST HIT HERE IN
MISSOURI ARE RETURNING HOME, SEEING
WHAT'S LEFT....AND CLEANING UP.
(SOT TOM COMBS/FLOOD VICTIM): "I'LL GET
IN MY HOUSE THIS AFTERNOON. BUT WE'RE
NOT GONNA LIVE THERE - IT'S FULL OF
MUD."
Tom Combs loves to camp - he just
didn't think he'd have to in his own

(SOT TOM COMBS): "WE DON'T NEED
SYMPATHY, BELIEVE ME. WE CHOOSE TO LIVE
HERE -
THIS IS OUR LIFE-STYLE. AND WE LOVE
IT. AND WE'RE GONNA STAY HERE."
One thing he did manage to
save......Sunday dinner.
(NATSOT no font TOM COMBS/FLOOD
VICTIM): "EASTER HAM, RIVER-RAT STYLE!"
Thousands here have been forced from
their homes and are only now getting
the
opportunity to see if their house is
OK. Red Cross shelters remain packed.
The weather should help for a change.
The region won't be seeing much in the
way of rain for the next couple
days...Giving these soaked commmunities
the
long-awaited chance to dry out.

OQ=Tim Saunders, News 7, Bedford County << Danny Johnson runs a successful
(END SOT) orchard and winery in Bedford.
It's an operation that welcomes
apple lovers year round, but it didn't
start out that way.
Danny Johnson: "We had a bad hale
storm back in the 80's, which wiped out
our crop of apples."
That stroke of bad luck led to a
"pick-you-own" apple business.
Soon, people were coming from all
over the state - transforming Johnson
from farmer to host.
"We found out that people would
come back, off the beaten path you
might say, and visit."
Now he's teaching other farmers
how to capture that success.
He's working with the Virginia
Cooperative Extension, hosting a
seminar on "agri-tourism."
Martha Walker: "Our goal is to
help our producers see other options
that they can use on their land to keep
their farms viable."
Farmers like Johnson say there's
a lot to think about when switching
over to tourism like opening up your
land to the public. But ag officials
are hoping farmers realize that
liability is worth the risk.
"To bring people into the
country, onto a farm, and let them
experience how a farm actually works.
That's where the interest is."
Interest some land owners are
picking up on.
Joanna Protz: "We do have some
property and it's quite lovely and
maybe we could share it someday."
For anyone that does want to
follow in Johnson's footsteps.
"You have to start small and
grow. Grow yourself into
agri-tourism." An idea that could
put farming back on the map.

museum is to educate the public about
the role of chaplains, priests, and
rabbis, and religious organizations in
the Civil War.
In doing so, it helps preserve
religious artifacts and shows the
influence religion had on the lives of

With a number of paintings and
other period artifacts, the Civil War
Chaplains Museum has a lot of great
things to display... just not enough
space to display it.
The museum is currently housed in
a one-thousand square foot room in the
Arthur S. DeMoss Building at Liberty

But plans are in the works to
expand into a facility ten-times as a
large.
