degree murder of his girlfriend.

After deliberating several hours
yesterday, it took the jury just an
additional 15 minutes this morning to
convict Ransome.
The 31-year old Roanoke man was found
guilty of killing Latasha Boardly, who
was also the mother of his two
children.

November 16, 2006 half ago at a Super-8 Motel near the
airport.
Boardly had been drinking and
snorting cocaine all night, when she
asked Ransome to come to the motel
room.
Ransome said he shot her accidentally.

western Austria.

snowy highway.
Police say at least one person is
dead, and 30 others have been injured.
Some victims are believed to be

snow.
The highway's also been closed in
both directions.

County. something residents of the Clover
(END SOT) community are getting used to - but
they're not happy about it.
"It's hurting all of us, you
know, right along this road."
The Route 92 bridge, connecting
Clover with Route 360 is closed,
creating an 10 mile detour for people
like Jennifer Nichols.
"It's been a tremendous
inconvenience."
Nichols gets around in a
wheelchair - she says not having the
bridge is slowing her down.
Jennifer Nichols: "You have to
rearrange your schedule in order to
make sure you're at school on time or,
for other people, at work on time."
The bridge was built in 1930 and
you can't miss the signs of aging.
It's so bad, the Virginia
Department of Transportation is
thinking about abandoning the bridge.
On an average day, less than 500
cars and trucks would be passing over
this bridge. And V-DOT says that's not
enough traffic to justify the money it
would take, to build a new bridge."
Paula Jones: "There are a lot of
factors that are not monetary that we
need to look at that's how does this
affect the community?"
Nichols has a petition to save
the bridge with nearly 500 signatures -
many from people who say closing the
bridge would be a safety hazard.
Jennifer Nichols: "If there was a
fire east of 600 then we'd be trapped
and that's a major point for me."
V-DOT says they're taking
concerns like that seriously.
Meanwhile, residents are getting
used to the new traffic pattern.
"I'd like to see it open, you
know, but if it don't, it don't."
Still many are holding out hope -
the detour won't be permanent.

Officials say the car went forward;

where it shattered a large glass
window.

Appalachian Power says it needs
to get the ball rolling on the Sunscape
substation project.
Currently the company has two
proposals for locations off Colonial
Avenue.

acres to build a substation to keep up
with the demand from more than seven
thousand customers. But at 55 feet
tall the facility won't be easy to hide
and that what has many worried.

the mother of three Clark is also

During a community meeting
Monday night, even more homeowners
opposed building the substation in a
residential area. Board of Supervisors
representative Charlotte Moore says if
it's built there's one way to lessen
the effect.
