a state trooper.

the state Capitol.

Martinsville shooting last September.
That's after the victim of the
shooting, Barry Hairston, died last
Friday due to complications.

Brent Watts in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. The high temperature today in
Roanoke was 79 and the low was 48. A
cold front will cross the region
tonight and eventually be replaced by
an area of high pressure Wednesday.
This will bring at least one day of
sunshine. Look for mostly cloudy skies
tonight, and perhaps a few showers with
lows in the mid 40s. Drier air will
move in Wednesday pushing shower
chances south of the area for a day.
Despite the sunshine, highs will
actually be a touch cooler, topping out
in the low 60s. A cold air wedge,
similar to the one this past weekend,
will begin to develop Wednesday night.
Easterly low-level moisture and cold
air in place may mean light rain and
even some sleet Wednesday night and
Thursday morning. Highs will only reach
the low 40s. With a front lingering
near, scattered rain is likely on
Friday with highs in the mid 60s.
Saturday also features a 50% chance of
showers as a front passes through.
Drier air begins to arrive behind the
front Sunday. This means clearing skies
and abundant afternoon sunshine. Highs

Community College says a man grabbed
her in a women's restroom on campus
last week.
The details of her story have
prompted police to issue another
campus-wide alert.

The student says the man came out
of a stall and grabbed her from behind.
She told police she head-butted
the attacker, turned around, kneed him

A judge denied bond for
19-year-old Slade Allen Woodson and
appointed the Public Defender's Office
to represent him.

That's because college newspapers
may soon be allowed to carry ads for
alcohol.

A federal magistrate judge this
week overturned the state law that had
prohibited campus newspapers from
printing alcohol ads
The Collegiate Times at Virginia
Tech - -along with U-V-a's Cavalier
Daily- -sued the state, claiming the
ban was a free- speech violation.
They said it was costing them
30-thousands dollars a year.
The U-S Magistrate's opinion is
subject to appeal.

Tech, the demand for mental health
services has increased dramatically in
the New River Valley.

Requests to the N-R-V's Community
Service Board for emergency mental
health interventions rose 42- percent
between April and December last year.
The C-S-B received an award in
Richmond today for its response to
mental health needs following the
shootings.
Members counseled first
responders, families of those killed,
and others in the community.

Jefferson's summer retreat is almost
finished.

An original office wing is being
built at Poplar Forest.
What's so neat, is once that
addition is complete, visitors will see
the house the same way Jefferson saw it
180 years ago.
Restoration work has been going
on at the home since 1989.
The exterior portion will be done
next summer, but construction will
continue at the site.
You can see the new office wing
for yourself - Poplar Forest is open
Wednesday through Monday.

1972, Petty Enterprises is in need of a
sponsor.
General Mills, the main sponsor
of the number 43 Dodge, is leaving
Petty after this season and heading to
Richard Childress racing.
Childress is starting a fourth
team in 2009 with the number 33 on the
side of the car.
There also has been speculation
that Petty would also lose driver Bobby
Labonte, but Petty Enterprises says it
is close to locking up Labonte in a
lifetime contract.
