(END SOT) Jefferson used."
Travis McDonald is in charge of
restoration work at Poplar Forest,
making Thomas Jefferson's summer home
look the way it did when Jefferson
built it.
"We have kind of relived the
Jefferson experience and added our own
experience to that."
His work started the late 1980's.
Today, he's reached the home
stretch.
McDonald and his team are putting
the final touches on Jefferson's wing
of offices - a section of Poplar Forest
that housed a kitchen and service
rooms.
"The wing is a very interesting
part of Jefferson's architecture, so
it's going to be something of great
interest to the public."
Builders are making sure every
detail of construction is exactly the
way Thomas Jefferson would have done it
200 years ago. Take this door for
example. The nails used here were made
by hand in Colonial Williamsburg.
"This is authentic to a point,
but once it's finished it looks
completely correct."
Inside the new wing - you'll find
elements of what made this home unique.
"The things Jefferson puts in
this kitchen here at Poplar Forest are
the same things he's putting in the
White House."
It's a history lesson they hope
will bring more history buffs to
Bedford County.
Anna McAlpine: "At this point,
Poplar Forest is beginning to join the
other Jefferson sites for its
architectural excellence."
When the outside is done next
summer, visitors will see Poplar Forest
in a way it hasn't looked in 160 years.
Giving everyone who visits
Jefferson's retreat an instant glimpse
of the past.

<< Good evening, I'm meteorologist
Robin Reed in the SkyTracker7 Forecast
Center. A cold front will cross the
region tonight and eventually be
replaced by an area of high pressure
Wednesday. This will bring at least one
day of sunshine. Look for mostly
cloudy skies tonight, and perhaps a few
showers with lows in the mid 40s.
Drier air will move in Wednesday
pushing shower chances south of the
area for a day. Despite the sunshine,
highs will actually be a touch cooler,
topping out in the low 60s. A cold air
wedge, similar to the one this past
weekend, will begin to develop
Wednesday night. Easterly low-level
moisture and cold air in place may mean
light rain and even some sleet
Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Highs will only reach the low 40s.
With a front lingering near, scattered
rain is likely on Friday with highs in
the mid 60s. Saturday also features a
50% chance of showers as a front passes
through. Drier air begins to arrive
behind the front Sunday. This means
clearing skies and abundant afternoon
sunshine. Highs will remain in the 60s.

GRAPHIC=None Last week we told you about a
parachute discovered recently buried in
Washington State.
CHANNEL=A VO-NAT
VO-NAT Some believed it may have been used
by D.B. Cooper when he skyjacked a
plane almost forty years ago.
But now a man who worked the case in
1971, says it couldn't have the one
given to the mysterious criminal.
Earl Cossey packed the parachute
given to Cooper. He said the one he
packed was made out of nylon. The one
discovered in Washington was silk.
Cooper hijacked a Northwest Orient
flight from Portland to Seattle,
claiming he had a bomb. He parachuted
out of the plane with two hundred
thousand dollars. He was never found.
